I may have asked about this before or perhaps something close to it, but here's the deal:
I am building a Vostroyan army primarily due to the look of them. Their appearance is rather like licorice in that not everybody likes it but those that do really like it!
Now according to the fluff, every Vostroyan that works in a factory must devote one hour to Vostroyan weapons to match every ten hours spent on standard I.G. stuff. And their weapons, like their uniforms, are unique and I think elegant. Okay, so elegance wont stop a bullet or kill the enemy (unless you can somehow charm them to death!) But the point is, do we believe that they would put so much time and creative effort into a pistol and then, before going into battle, send a few grunts off to the motorpool to gather up whatever standard I.G. vehicles aren't in use?
I believe that it was on the G.W. site that someone showed a number of Vostroyan tank conversions and, yes, they showed time and talent but looked clunky. Since the Vostroyans obviously owe their look to Russian cossacks, I spent time at a local hobby shop looking for appropriately-sized models from the Napoleonic period hoping to score bits that might be used to convert a Chimera. . .nothing!
Any thoughts, suggestions, maybe examples (with photos?)
Personally i agree vostoyans are like ruskies, but to me they look like fancy commies and so you should use the WW2 Russian tanks! There are loads of 1/35th scale tanks and actually although they dont say it on the GW site i think they got their tank from a russian WW2 tank Picture time now!
Russian tank from WW2, the Kv-2 super heavy tank
And the GW version...
Very similar so my point here is!!! that ruskie tanks look sweet for vostoyans!!! lol but there are lots and LOTS of choices and you should search under "1/35th scale WW2 armor" or "1/35th scale russian tanks" on google and sift through images and models till you find one u like!
Here is some leman russ's??
There are loads of stuff out there for you to convert and bring atention and a little personal touch to your army! i hope this helped!
So you are going Vostroyan mate
Welcome to the world of heavy metal and light las guns!
As for your tanks, I think Vostroyans have an illogical love for wood. You don't build a flamer out of wood if you are not in some way a fetishist, now do you?
So I say wood.
Not all over of course, but say the Basilisk rear platform -should be made of wood. The rim around a tank hatch or two -wood. You could maybe use shields from the fantasy range as hatches?
It's not efficient some will say (and they'll be right of course) but this universe and the universe of 40K differs in that way. If something is just cool enough it will work. There...not necessarily here though...
