Does anyone have any conversion ideas on how to make a Dark Elf highborn on manticore - as you know, the manticore comes with a fugly guy that is supposed to be a beastmaster. I was thinking of building this ugly little guy despite himself and putting a pin up him - then doing the same with a cool looking highborn so i could switch them out at whim.
it depends how good ur modeling skills are, as u could go as simple as slamming a cold one knight on there, to the extensive suche as resculpting legs so hes kneeling in the main, holding its mein etc, malus darkblade is a very populer highborn substitue from what ove seen, now ill tell u what me and my cousin did:
i made a balsa wood throne style chair and added shield glyphs, heads skulls etc to it, and we attached this to the manticore, adding bindingd etc out of greenstuff, my cousin then went on to use adrubeal vect (sp? the dark eldar lord) legs as hes sitting, these looked alright but neededs to be a little less futuristic, so i sculpted a robe to these, a basic dark elf torso was used as well as mister darkblades sword arm, his other had was scratchbiult to look like his resting it on his throne, the head was simply the dark eldar head with top knot, a cloak was added, and it was round his shoulders like a poncho, spikes were added aand there u have, a rather good looking highborn mounted on a manticore on a throne, for my cousins army =] hope this gives soem ideas =]
It should be fairly simple to just put a different rider on the manticore model. Depending on your GS skilss you can also do a torso swap and cover the whip with a bit of GS to make a loincloth/saddle out of it.
You can also look into getting the classical manticore from mailorder. It looks very different but it should be very easy to place almost any rider model on it.
The link below is from Stuff of legends, because I couldn't find a nice picture at the GW store:
The parts are still available, all you have to do is search for the word "Manticore":
Shut up and play.
