Some of you might know what my red looks like with my Tau army, if not, it can be found in my projects thread. http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ad.php?t=98132 (The Model Making Escapades of a Fox)
Or my dA which is linked in my sig.
Anywho, what I want to ask and seek advice on is this; I have some XV15 stealth suits, and at the minute they are all painted a base red gore. Now given that the rest of my army is the red I have shown you, I want to have my XV15's stand out a bit, given that they are stealth suits.
I had through about rather than just adding the blood red, just going right to the highlighting with the blazing orange and then red washing it as normal, but I'm not overly sure how that would look, and would like to see if You guys could help me come up with anything else before I continued with them.
Toastee painting?! O_o Heresy (must be!)!! *calls up lynch mob
Are they pruely red, or do you have a secondary colour on them? If you don't have a secondary colour I would recommend it. Black always works well with red so it might be worth considering.
Oh and highlights are good. Go highlights!
Erm, they are very red mate.
I would do the stealths completely different, given you are mostly basing grey, I woud probably do the grey (stealth field and all that). However two things make say whoa, first these are XV15s not 25s so less area to paint cammo on, secondly you have based them red gore, so on the whole I woudl try and do a commo patern, how about painting them orange with tiger stripes??
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Personally, if you could make them stand out by being less flashy (heresy, I know), that would be the way I would go, since they are for stealthing, after all. Like going for more browns in with the red, maybe some shiny black if you wanted some punch. Maybe something like the one in this photo I found.
I hope this helps!
At theminute they are all pure red gore, so no second colour on them yet. But like I said, I just don't want to go the way that the rest of the army is going given that they are stealths.Hmmm, I'm trying to picture the tiger stripes in my head, and I have to admit I'm not overly sure on it. I'll be painting later so I'll give it a go on one of the models maybeI would do the stealths completely different, given you are mostly basing grey, I woud probably do the grey (stealth field and all that). Would painting them mostly black work maybe? Keep the red gore, but only have it on certain areas?
That would mark them out as different to the rest of the army, but would still fit in at the same time maybe....
That last one sounds good to me.
I always imagine them as displaying the same colours as the main cadre, but in much more muted fashion.
Except when the stealth field is activated, of course.
Ahem. Anyway, I'd paint them mostly very dark, blacks or browns or greys, then do red gore shoulder pads and helmets, or something along those lines.

I'll give that a go now too, as I'm just about to log an go paint. I'll try paint on up and take a picture
Upon looking at the XV15s again I realised that the red was in fact Scab Red, nor Red Gore.
So I decided to stick with teh red, but only use blood red and blazing orange for the helmet and one of the shoulder pads.
I don't know if they will stand out from the rest of the army this way, or at least not totally... but the red still keeps it in theme I think.
Actual proof of painting. From Toastee. I... I...
They look good enough, but I'm not sure if they stand out to much from the rest. I think yhey would benefit from some secondary colour on the armour, perhaps on a few armour plates (black?), on the sept-symbol and perhaps on such minor details as the visor-sight-thing on the helmet?
*Beats the Sweed with a SWEED!*
Yea, I'm still in two minds really. It doesn't stand out from the rest of the army in the sense that its a lot darker than all of the other minis and the red that they have on them.
But at the same time, I think we'll it is different... its not overly so.
I'll try and paint up another tonight or tomorrow with a bit more black on. (If it comes to it, then I can at least add black to red to either mini when I decide which is right)
