Hey all, first post here at LO.
I have a dreadnoght in my army and i want him to have the Venerable rule. However, he's currently just a plain dreadnought. Seeing as i don't like the Venerable Dreadnought model, how can i "upgrade" him to look Venerable? I've thought about adding a few scrolls and other Emperor-related bits onto his hull. Any ideas?
The scrolls is already a good idea further some extra purityseals will also help.
You can also add more to it's venerable status when painting like doing some parts in a golden colour or such.
Shields from the fantasy range cal also be used as GW did that before they made the horrible blingbling venerable dred
any inquistor bits work..
Use the standard stuff that comes extra with your SM Squads, if you have some left over: purity seals, those hanging cloths that you can seal to a leg or whatnot...the banner sprue works well, and can be glued to be hanging on the back of the Dread, above his head. This will all give him the venerable look without having to go to much, if any, extra expense.

Dreads are the most fun to convert! It's rreally easy and there is so much you can do!
The only thing you have to do is to make him stand out... Some nice conversions will do the trick.
A nice trick to make the dread larger is to place spacers (you know the small rings that you use between nuts and bolts) between the arms and thorax, in the waist and between the feet and legs. This makes the dread stand taller.
You can also remove the front plate of the dread and replace it with something. Cables? A SM head and thorax? A zombiehead behind a sheat of clear plastic?
It also easy to scratch build an alternate CCW. A wrecking ball? Claws?
Tell us about the theme of your army and I'm shure you'll get more ideas from us.
For Brother Adox, my Venerable Dreadnought, most of the changes I made were during painting (as he is one of the older Metalnoughts and doesn't take to well to conversion). I added quite a few bits of gold trim (as he is 2nd Company), and lots of Chapter Symbols, Company Markings and Crux Terminatae of various sizes, as well as lots of script written upon his hull describing his various deeds! He started off fairly plain but a plethora of purity seals and icons added after he kept winning games for me!
I know what you mean about the Venerable Dread though, it's over the top if you ask me - however I believe it's perfect to use as a Chaplain-Dreadnought so I plan to get one and paint it up in Reclusiam Colours as an interred Chaplain!
I hope something I said there is helpful!
