As some may know i'm converting a space marine army to have a reptilian theme to it, for which the reason can be found in the fluff in my sig.
Right back on track, i have ideas on how to do some general conversions (adding tails and other scaly things to the marines) however for my army commander (the one that is going to represent my Chapter Master) rather than just doing a few minor conversions like adding tail and that i wanted to do something a bit more drastic.
I've got an image in my head with a rough idea of how i would like him to look, but i'm lookin for a bit of help in what to use and how to go about the conversion.
The basic idea behind him is that i would like him to be a jump infantry person, and so am looking for ideas on what kind of wings to use for him (wings because due to fluff reasons he's been mutated), also he'll be using twin lightning claws, he's not going to be wearing a helm and so a few conversions will be done with his head to give it a reptilian apperance and i'd also like to give him the look that he is leaping forward to strike at whats infront of him.
I know that this sounds like alot, but unlike the few other conversions i've done, i'm planning on taking my time on this one to make sure i get it right so time won't be much of an issue to me, so any ideas on how to go about this as well as what parts to use would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance
Maybe consider the dark elf harpy wings for the commander? They are kinda bat/reptillian like, or failing that the Lizardmen terradon wings.
As for the body I would go with standard 'running' assault marine legs and mount the lord on some kind of rock - gor for the whole leaping off the eyrie thing - with the plastic torso of your choice.
Not sure what you would use for the head, I can only suggest teh Lizardmen range as a place to start. Saurus warriors may work with a bit of greenstuff.
Or, alternatively, you could use shrikes body with a backpack and head swap...
Frankly I am not much for the whole, add tails and things, and instead for adding things I am all for wings (angel style) and for a marine with a tail I instantly react: "Die Mutant Scum" besides, no chapter would allow such obvious mutants inside their chapters. If anything have a scale on their head or something, something small yet noticeable like Space Wolf fangs, small yet noticeable and not liable for execution by the Ordos. Get some green stuff from your hobby store/ online and make a scale somewhere like his head or hand, though this would be harder to do.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LOOK AT MY BLOG!
Rep people if they help you!!!

Not much on help for you commander, but I hope some of this inspires you on your reptilian adventures.

Some nice conversions there Jaffar with a nice paint scheme, true not much help, but it's got some of my insperation back :p
Well i'll be popping into my local GW soon anyway and just wanted a few ideas of what to look for, as well as to restock on GS, no idea where its all gone lol
Also as a side note to Nugz, what you say about the whole "Die Mutant Scum" being said and enacted by imperial forces is quite correct, however as i'm converting and painting my models based around my fluff, it's kind of what i was aiming towards. (strange how the models are based on the fluff, when i started on the models first :p)
A very nice idea, are you going to use actual lightning claws or give him talons?
I'm afraid I can't help much on what components to use for lizardy types apart from the obvious Lizardmen ideas, though maybe something in the various incarnations of Cold Ones could help? You could have Cold One-riding Marines instead of bikers!
Also for your Dreadnought have you considered your modelling options? I assume it will have a heavy flamer on it :-P, it occurs that it might be cool to have the Space Marine inside mutated and bursting from the sarcophagus...
That's my 2 pence anyway (hey it's better that 2 cents)!
I'm surprised no one's mentioned the new Possessed plastics yet! There are two great pairs of bat-like wings on that sprue, designed to fit right on a Marine's back. I realize that you may not want to buy the full box just for the wings, so maybe you should check out Battlewagon Bitz. It's been a while, but last I looked, they have the wings in stock, and you can buy one pair alone.
Other than that, you said you wanted his helmet off... How about a green stuff crest or frill? A reptilian beak may be too much in terms of mutation; After all, the Imperium barely tolerates the Space Wolves' fangs or the Black Dragons' arm blades.
Either way, as a general suggestion, if you can find some way to give them unarmored sections like bare arms, it would be really easy to model scales on their flesh. Just flatten a few tiny (really tiny!) balls of green stuff on a couple areas to suggest an ongoing pattern. Look to the Fantasy Lizardmen or Cold Ones to see what I'm talking about here.
Keep going, and good luck!
I build, I convert, I sometimes paint, and once in a while, if I'm really lucky, I might even play.
Yeah i thought about using the possesed wings, but i don't quite like the idea of the wings being apart of the backpack, i kind of want it like they are sprouting from his back.
At the moment i'm planning on using lightning claws, but if i can find a way to do talons, then i will likely opt for that option, would be rather cool having massive claws to rip people apart with :p
I've actualy had a suggestion from one of my brothers of using cold ones instead of bikes, but i'll only do that if i actualy decide to take bikes, i prefer assault marines, but i'll look into that, especialy for when i make my army apocolypse ready.
I'm thinking of using green stuff to make kind of a scaled cloak as it were to hang over certain areas of the draednougt along with a few other bits.
Back to the commander, i like that idea of trying to show bits of his arms or other parts of his body toshow the scales, and possibly make it so it's as if he is getting too big for his armour, though in truth i'm not quite sure how i would do this.
Thanks for the suggestions people, it has realy boosted my imagination, now as soon as i get all the bits i need, i can start work on him, and when i do i will see about trying to get some WIP pics up, just need to find a decent camera to take the pics with.
Good stuff mate, I know what a nice feeling it is when your head is buzzing with ideas! Just make sure you put pics up as you said so we can all see the results!
Are you planning on doing a Chaplain with a dragon skull helm? That would be well nice!
You know, i never actualy thought about doing a chaplain, though i suppose i should get one just in case, well if i do, then yeah a dragon skull will probs be the best way to go, though the question will be if i can get a hold of one or have to make me own :s anyway, as i said i'll try get some pics up as soon as i get the stuff together for the build.
Time to "borrow" my dads camera :p
