    Black undercoat spray????

Hello peole, can anyone recommend an alternative to the Citadel black undercoat spray? I heard it's not exactly great so i tried a few really cheap ones but they were even worse. Im incredibly cheap so i don't really want to fork out $20 on a can of paint.. Any you guys recommend?? Mind you im in south Australia so I might not be able to find some of what u guys use.
    Thanks guys

    Hi Wispy,

I must admit I'd heard the GW black primer was pretty decent, and that the only thing it didn't have going for it was it's price.
That said, I normally use Tamiya's White or Light Grey Surface Primer, and have been using it for a number of years now. The coverage is really great and it gives an excellent surface to paint onto.
The owner of my LHS mentioned that if I wanted to primer or undercoat in black, then he would recommend the Tamiya matt black in a rattle can as an alternative to the GW spray.

If you insist on spraypaint, I can't help you, but I use a brush-on clearcoat that works very nicely, and costs $1 US per bottle.

I'm not sure where else to point you, but whoever told you that the Citadel spray was bad was wrong in my opinion. I've never had anything but good experiences with it, although I understand the price issue. Good luck!

I am going to have to agree, i use the Citadel black exclusively, i love to use it as white takes too much work for me, while the black i can paint better (probrably just mental, or the necessity to cover the black makes me paint better), i would say go for that and test it out.

What I think you have done if they don't have eye sockets is either not shook very well the can or the distance was close...

Apart from that Citadel's black is nice... except when it is to finish when it leaves spots and sometimes grains!

I prefer the "old" citadel primer cans but I have had no problems with the new chaos black primer.
I will stick with it myself.

I HAVE seen and heard people use krylon black to good effect.

I had an excellent experience with the chaos black in the past. The newest can my roommate and I bought was horrible, however. The paint was thin and watery no matter how hard we shook. The coverage was horrible. It was almost like two different products.

I switched to the standard Krylon primer (which is gray) and have had fantastic results with it as well.

Mind if I ask how much you've spent on even worse paints? Sometimes I found it being quite expensive to be cheap
