I wanna make a Rogue Adeptus Mechanicus army involving a Renegade Techpriest and an army of Robots!
It started out as an Inquisitor Warband of a mad Techpriest and 4 ‘Dragoon’ Robots…
Looking at one of the ‘Dragoons’ I’m tempted to mount a shorted Gauss Flayer on the bottom and count it as a warrior but with the rumor of most Necron units getting the ‘Slow and Purposeful’ rule in the upcoming re-release next Xmas I’m considering other armies?
Problem is I don’t know how to convert mechanical looking humanoid Robots and before people scream out ‘Necrons’ they look too alien to be built by the Mechanicus and there is a very small amount of bionic parts?
A very intriguing idea, and a very interesting question.
To be honest I can't think of many sources for "clunkier" robots (I assume this is the kind of thing you mean) maybe take some necron and mix them with some sutiable Tau bits?
Failing that some Epic scale Titan parts might work, or oooh, the old Knights from Titan Legions?
Either that or maybe you could look outside of the GW range for them, some other manufacturer probably does a shedload of scifi robots in 28mm scale!
I'd take a look at some AT-43 minis as they have a number of both man and Dread' sized robots, and a few power armours. They are pre assembled and painted as far as I know but they would supply a far amount of bits and pieces. Also one could rob Dread's and Sentinels of parts as old fluff mentions the Adeptus Mechanicus robots tend to borrow heavily from the Dreadnought parts bin (even brings up the fact overzealous Tech-Priests have actually cannabalized damaged Dreadnoughts to the point of killing their occupant).
Heres an idea i've recently came up for a robotic army.
Anyone remember the cool GDI walkers from C&C Tiberian Sun? (If not or you haven't played the game look here: GDI Mech Attack
I thought of ways to convert a Deathwing army featuring robot/walkers that are similar to those featured in that video.Terminators (The Juggernaut)Basically I start off with a Mega Armoured Nob's main body (rumored to be released next year in plastic) and use plasticard to cover up where the ork's head goes like the 'Wolverine' (bottom pic). Before adding the Wardroid's arms that feature weapons that look like a storm bolter and powerfist. They also have a flamer and circilar saw arm that can act as a power claw. Add some extra features like the light and scanner of the apothecary backpack and you've got a mechanicus mech.
DreadnoughtsIt started off as a Inquisitor game robot but was later upgrade making it look more mechanicus like so I plan to use this conversion as a base for the dreads.
Those are my two major units as for the Master Of The Deathwing Belial I likely convert either a techmarine or make a larger version of the 'Juggernaut' mech. Not sure about Land Raiders though?
Any thoughts on the idea both model and game wise?
I really like the idea for your large robots and dreds,
maybe you could use these as troops.
Just click the link and scroll down to the FW15 terminator robots.
Hope this helps!

I AM BOOMER!
Now when you say robots what do you mean? Old school first ed robots or golden age "Iron men" robots (as in the ones that nearly killed all humans and lead to the banning of AI constucts.
here are some terminator robots from future wars they could repusent non chaos altered iron men (like from gaunts ghosts so cool...) do them with red eyes and they will look so evill! hope this helps...
