Welcome to Librarium Online!
I need help on makeing a baneblade conversion like the one for orks or chaos. The way i understand VDR if you want to modify an existing vehicle you use its cost and add on the cost of the weapons you wish to add. But do you take off the cost of weapons that you remove. For instance if I remove the las cannon and TL heavy bolter do i take off the cost of those weapons in the VDR book?
Any way i think ill probally take some flak for this cause it really doesnt fit into the tau way of combat, but i want to make a salvaged baneblade for the farsight enclave. Its goin to have a ion cannon in place of the demolisher cannon in the hull and the side sponsons are goin to have rail guns in place of the TL heavy bolters on the side with support arms comeing off the las turrets(if i can model it right). And the coax auto cannon and hull bolter will be replaced by a smart missle system( maybe still thinking on that one).
Any advice would be highly appreciated or any links to previous VDR threads that would cover this.
Well, you could try and build a VDR from scratch. Take a Super heavy tank w/ all the Tau stuff and see how many points it costs. Use a Converted Baneblade as a model.
I just ran VDR in the Armybuilder program for your options. It would come to a cost of 485 points. Including 3 structure points, 2 railguns, an Ion cannon & Smart missile system.
When creating a Baneblade from scratch with VDR it would be roughly 700 points. which isn't exactly the sweet price it costs nowadays.
I'd suggest building a superheavy tank with all the sweet stuff you want on it, and just use the baneblade model. In your own army fluff you could always refer to it as a salvaged Baneblade.
I can imagine the kroot salavaging a Baneblade more than the Tau but considering that the Farsight enclave has little access to new vehicles it makes it much more likely.
A kroot baneblade would be good to see though.
Total 40k: >5000pts
total WFB: ~2000pts
I also enjoy good music, fine food, late night strolls on the beach and dancing in moonkin form :)
I'd also agree with creating a vehicle from scratch and just using the BB as the model.
The reason for the high points costs for stuff created with the Design Rules is because you get exactly what you want, and GW stated that they wanted you to pay extra for such stuff. They probably also wanted to reduce incentives for conversions abusing the DR, instead of conversions done for their own sake and then just getting some playable rules via DR.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
If you read through the Apocolypse Codex there are rules for Baneblades that have been looted for both Chaos. The Ork one is particularly fun. A Fast Vehicle that can carry 30 models worth of troops. As it's a super heavy tank it can carry walkers. So rush up it up 24" in turn one, then in turn 2 open up, let loose 3 dreadnaughts which can assault because it counts as open topped!
