I just can't seem to decide on one paint scheme for my army and its really slowing me down. At first I made both the infantry and tanks chaos black and then added codex gray patches of camo with Fortress Grey (gray? grey?) lining on the camo patches. Then after this i saw the vogen scheme with the shadow grey fatigues and the white and black camo patterns. Now i am really confused. The only thing i think i know for sure is that my stormtroopers are going to have black armor and grey, codex or shadow, patterns. PLease help me decide!!
you need 2 things:
1. a colour scheme you can paint well and wont get bored with (given IG).
2. a colour scheme that looks good
Black is never brilliant for this, it looks cheap and noone in their right mind wears black on the battlefield. try looing at camo schemes
Everything you have been told is a lie!
one of the reason to wear camouflage is that it makes your outline and appearance less well defined, so if you camouflage your troops too well (or badly) it makes your whole army look less distinct.
Also a dark paint scheme looks muddy and drab on the battlefield, that's why all GW black armies have a brighter contrasting color (red and white for black templar, pink for older Emperors children). So if you are going for a black or dark paint scheme be sure to contrast it in some way.
As has been said many times before, it helps to think about what your army is. I'm not just talking about what units you have. I mean, what are your guys like? No, I'm not talking 50 pages of fluff here, but take a step back a moment and imagine where you think they come from. What kind of world is it? Lush tropical? Barren wasteland? Is it hot or cold? Teeming with cities of towering spires or burrowed underground? Just a basic, one-paragraph-long answer to these questions will often help you make up your mind. Might even inspire conversions
