I have just noticed that B&Q have started to sell pink foam in blocks for insulation, and the price appears to be very reasonable. Clearly B&Q are a nationwide high street chain, and therefore this makes sourcing much easier. I have normally found extruded polystyrene quite difficult to find in the UK and have had to resort to on-line suppliers and been surprised about how expensive it was, but imo B&Q are much cheaper.
It only appears to come in packs of 2.4m2 and thickness of 52.5mm, length 1200mm, width 500mm. The cost is £17 online or £29 in the stores. It is called "Knauf Space Board Loft Board Insulation (T)52.5mm".
It is not the very high density stuff but will be great for many applications, and really good for a modular base board.

I found a place called WarmTiles when attempting to locate some materials but I never got around to purchasing any so I can't speak as to the quality of it, but in any case here's the link for those interested:
Looks good and plenty of choice, however if the 50mm thickness is the one you want then B&Q is < half the price! I am not a fan of the big DIY stores (in fact I hate them) but they sometimes significantly reduce the price of some items (beware, they also sometimes charge a mint for something you can easily get in small quantities from trade suppliers).
