So, if I understood correctly you can pretty much take loyalist formations for your CSM army in Apoc.
Now I'm thinking of doing a Masters of the chapter squad for my chaos legion. First a bit of a rules question; it is even "legal" or possible?
However, given it is legal, how to model? I'm thinking Abaddon as Master of the chapter and either the 4 different chaos gods as the "sub-masters".
Master of the watch - Tzeentch
Master of the fleet - Nurgle
Master of the arsenal - Khorne
Master of recruits - Slaanesh
Or something the other way around.
Alternatively I could opt for 4 undivided masters (or lords or any other appropriate name). That would be something like;
Master of the watch - Alpha legion
Master of the fleet - Night lords
Master of the arsenal - Iron warriors
Master of recruits - Word bearers
Of course a load of different cult HQ's w/ Daemonweapons would be quite something, but fluffwise I'd say the undivided masters option is a nice thing.
Well, to design my own would be an option. But I pretty much like the Masters of the chapter formation as it is. And besides that, I can only imagine the trouble friends will cause me if I design something myself and give it a certain price costs. People will probably argue if the price is justified. IMO it brings to much problems along. And given I see a Chaos lord as a SM commander or equivalent & a chapter master in someone like Abaddon, I don't see a problem thus far. Or is it just me?
But besides this discussion, how about the conversion part of it. Go for fluff or go for "cult-HQ's"?
Well, they are equivalent in their own armies. However, you're basically making your own datasheet here anyway, so you might as well just cut and paste the titles "Lord" in.
As for fluff... The fleets and recruits don't make sense as god-specifics; I'd use the undivided setup. I like the setup you have, makes sense mostly fluffwise.
Man, they were mean in an Apocalypse game I played the other day, enjoy them in your chaos army. I would go with that first option of having them represent each god with Abaddon at the head, that sounds really cool and you have some really great conversion work you can do.
I personally think it depends on your army. If your including a lot of daemons, then use the first setup, with the 4 choas affiliations as the masters. If your using marines or different CSM armies, the go for the second one. Try to make it reflect your army.
if you are using the Masters as counts-as in your chaos army, don't look at the titles for reference, look at the rules. Relate each Lord to one of the strategems, rather thanan imperial Title, such as Night Lords -> Ambush, Iron Warrriors -> Orbital bombardment etc.
(i don't actually remember the four strategems that you get, so figure it out yourself )
I like the four specific God idea, becuase it's like all of chaos coming together etc.etc.
So, Generic Lords based on one MoCU and four Marked IC models would fit thematically.
Lords of the Glorious Warhost - 200pts + Models
Formation (All Units to be chosen from the Chaos Codex)
Five CSM Commanders:
1 War Master, or WM (Unmarked Lord model)
1 Lord of the Watch (Sorceror/ TS model)
1 Lord of the Arsenal (Kharn/ KB model)
1 Lord of the Fleet (DG/ PM model)
1 Lord of Recruits (Lucius/EC model)
One Termi Squad
Warhost Command: The four Lords provide strategic assets to a player's army. Each may
be used once per game. In order to use the asset, that asset's Lord model must be on the
board, and joined to the WM's Unit. If the WM becomes a casualty, any unplayed assets will
no longer be available.
Assets by Lord
Watch = Ambush
Arsenal = Pre Strike
Fleet = Orbital B
Recruits = Surgical Raid
The only reason I don't recommend Abby and Typhus is the SM guys don't have Termi armour.
Your call, though.
I would make a datasheet based off of the Chosen of Abaddon.
cost: 50 pts more than the loyalist version ?
Give them the same assets.
