Hi guys and gals,
As the name implies I am going to be painting yellow (why oh why) over black for my Nordland Empire force. So I was looking for some help with this as I currently have no clue what so ever on how to make it look realistic or nice.
Cheers in advance
Don"t Paint Yellow!!!
One trick is to use an undiluted yellow ink over a coat of Bleached Bone. Make sure the Bleached Bone doesn't allow the black u/coat to show through. This will give you a good solid yellow colour.
The alternative is to use the new Foundation paint Iyanden Darksun as a basecoat, then paint over with your chosen yellow.
Hope this helped a little.

I am by far not a good painter. Infact, i consider myself a novice.
However, i find it weird that no one here has suggested using that yellow foundation point, Ive heard it can do some wonders over minis.
Hope this helps.
If you don't use the foundation paint another base color that should cover well enough and still take the yellow - would be a light brown - such as graveyard earch. Even a leather brown will work.

Foundation Paints to the rescue! A great trick that I learned recently was to use Iyanden Darksun Foundation Paint over black as a basis for yellow. It doesn't show the black through the Foundation paint, putting down a dull yellow that you can then paint over or shade as you wish. Hope this helps!
Argh. Why does everybody hate yellow. It's not that hard. Just paint over the black with a gray, then a lighter gray. Paint on a layer of white, then yellow from there.

Yeah cheers guys loads of help in less than a day wow. I would have tried the foundation paints but the last time I used them it came out all blotchy and watery.
Shake it up really well. It comes out nasty if you don't do so.
