I just started collecting tyranids and I am looking for a nice and relatively easy paint scheme for them. There's just too many of them to spend time on painting, especially when I have two other armies to deal with. Thanks in advance.
Hive fleet behemoth is quite easy and is the basis for mine.
Red Gore flesh areas
Hawk Turqoise dry brush over the black.
Graveyard earth/Denheb Stone bone areas
Putrid Green eyes/toxinsacs
Lich Purple tongue
The flesh wash gives them a nice slick slimey look.
I'm not the best painter so I find the use of washes give a bit more depth than my limited highlighting skills.
I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.
I was thinking about this scheme, but I prefer something darker. So far I tried black body, bleached bone carapace with flesh wash on it. All the fleshy parts were red. It's not that bad, but it takes ages to paint bleached bone over black and it lacks dry brushing like for my taste. what do you think about dry brush bleached bone without flesh wash. I didn't try it yet.
If you want to paint your Tyranids quickly what you can do is try to drybrush them with whatever colour you like. You can then use ink over that and you will find that the drybrushing has created a texture which sucks up the ink. You could spray them black and then drybrush them with red gore and then give them a deep red ink wash.
If you want them to have more detail then use red gore and then mix red gore with a little bleached bone and drybrush that on and then ink them. You could paint the carapace whatever colour suits you best.
I started like a month ago, I've already got an original and nice looking paint scheme with little assistance.
If you can get a hold of the third-edition Tyranid codex*, there's a whole page of different schemes, look at it for inspiration, that's what I did.
*It's out of date, download it.
Where do you want to download this? I know that you can download the errata documents, but a codex? Never heard of that...
It's illegal technically, but since it's out of date noone would care.
Download Limewire or something and search for it.
Ok... I had suspected that it would lead to something like that...
Back on topic- I'm about to paint the tyranids from BFM and was looking for a simple scheme. I was originally going to go with the purple and blue from way back but it's too similar to the marines (who I've done as Crimson Fists) so now I'm considering a dark (and maybe slimey) green, probably with black or bone talons. If you want to paint fast, especially with drybrushing, then keep to dark colours.
I look forward to pics- I'm having trouble settling on a scheme too!

No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
There is a nice variety of schemes on the Austalian GW Web site.
That should give you some ideas.
