Ok with the new Ork range coming out, I picked up the big mek that came out with the apoc range. I have two issues hurting my brain:
What colour scheme to go for (armour) often this is done is red but are there any other colours that work well, and is there any reason red seems to be the preferred colour?
Also what colour is Ork blood? I know bit of an odd question but do green skins have red blood?
Ork armour is done red 'coz red wunz go fasta!
And I've always imagined orks as having black blood
Hope that helps
Red seems to be the standard, but you could do a lot of different colors: metals for a scrapyard based Ork clan, yellow for the erm....richest orks, I'm sure you could come up with reasons for using different colors, and they'd look great!
Yups, red. Actually, redder than human blood, too. Also what colour is Ork blood? I know bit of an odd question but do green skins have red blood?
Another reason might be that red and green create a great contrast.

However there are many different clans with different colors, so you can chose what ever you want. Maybe you want to google for "40k orc clans".
Shut up and play.
It realyl depends on what "style" of orks you wish to play.
And I'm not necessarily talking about klans and tribes.
Understand a little about the 40K ork mythology. Like red = faster, blue being the color of luck, consider
that teeth are currency and I've considered bleach bone for some things to signify wealth.
Do you wanna do a gothic-ish ork army, then the goffs are an excellent choice. they're dark and broody colors(and you don't really NEED to play goffs).
I chose a lot of reds and yellows for contrast and I come from when 40K orks were vibrant, gaudy and rather silly(well, more so than now). but I got(and get) a lot of criticism that my orks "hurt their eyes" because its too bright.
Its all about personal taste like anything else in the miniatures hobby.

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Actually, biologically speaking Ork blood is green.
Human skin is black, but we appear pink because of our red blood showing through.
So Ork skin would probably be different, maybe a very VERY light or dark green, with opaque skin.
well if you dont want red to be your armour colour i think a nice dirty yellow would do the trick, maybe like a snake bite under coat and build up to a darkish sunburst.
I agree it should be green, but red looks way better!
I made my orks with yellow (bad moons) because of the color combo and because i like that klan
