http://uk.games-workshop.com/highelv...ing-details/1/ The runes on the banner and the golden helmet look good untill they brush on the tin bitz. Is it just me or do they look better without tin bits?

Without Tin Bitz or without Mithril Silver? I don't see why the Games Workshop guys love highlighting gold with silver, gold doesn't reflect light that way. Unless you went over the silver highlights with some Yellow Ink...hmm...have to keep that in mind to test out...
I've actually had some luck highlighting gold in this way, though I use it more often for a brassy effect. It could be that the highlights of the example are deliberately exaggerated in order to show where the highlights should fall. It also could easily be that it looks fine when not magnified so much.
They have overdone the silver highlights in those pics. Overdone them a lot! I usually paint a very, very thin line of mithril silver as a final highlight, but not on all surfaces. I find that it gives teh gold better definition.
