I want to go about making a Slaanesh Daemon prince to go with my noise marine army, I have made some concept sketches (I think it might be too big so I'm making it a link) and I need an opinion, should I semi scratch build him (using some Chaos marine parts), or just go all the way and scratch build the whole model?
I would also like opinions on the two heads I'm deciding on:
the two heads on the left are the same head, just a side view and front view, the 6 eyed one on the right is the second head
Thanks for the help and I'll post updates when I get to the next stage
How big is it going to be? Is the torso in you sketch surposed to be the same size as a standard marine? And I think the head on the right would be better, looks more Slaanesh...ish than the other one IMO.
If I'm assuming you would like your Daemon Prince to be roughly the same height as the metal one I may have a few ideas...
For the wings, you could use the forgeworld winged hive tyrant wings for inspiration(or you could buy it ) http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/hivetyrant2.htm or there's the warrior wings if your wanting something smaller http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/wtw.htm
Also, it would be worth looking at the plastic possessed for ideas as they have some uber cool heads and arms that might inspire you.
I think it depends on what size you are going to be modeling your daemon prince, but it definitely pays to look around for bitz (e.g. Sophie's wings, from reaper http://www.reapermini.com/store/cust...7&cat=2&page=1 )
I hope I've helped,if not just poke(I'm English!) me with a pointed stick...
Almost forgot, sorry. I like the head on the left!

I think that if you are going to make a Daemon prince and you aren't sure if you should use existing metal parts and convert them or if you should scratch build it? You should be honest with yourself. Consider if you have the needed skills to make it all on your own.
I know from personal experience that when I have tried to make something, that on occasion my grasp has been a little beyond my reach. In other words I found it much harder and longer to finish some things because I underestimated how hard it would be. You should consider that when you decide to make it completely from scratch or use metal parts. I don't know how good you are, but a little thought may save you alot of grief.
I think that the head on the right with six eyes is the best. That head is more original I think. The head on the left is basically a mouth with horns. The six-eyed head however has character in it, I think you will produce something much more original with that head. If you want consider merging the six-eyed head with the helmet-head. Basically a six-eyed-corupted-helmet-head.
If you are looking for wings you could try these. The Blood Dragon winged nightmare has wings that look very similar to the wings you drew in your sketch.
I was basically going for the look of the daemon prince in the new chaos codex (on pg 11) with the acception that he would have a Slaanesh-esh tail instead of legs
I like your idea, it could look awesome when done.
As for ideas, for the head you could check out the heads that come on the defiler, i think they would look more like creepy masks than actual heads, which could be cool. I'd use the regular Daemon Prince shoulder pads as they'd be the right size, then you could just build off them. Maybe make the armor showing skin between the plates instead of more armor, so it appears as though the armor is actually melded onto the body. Unless you're set on the daemonic claw-like arms, I've always thought of rapiers and scimitar's as being pretty Slaaneshi, two swords can be pretty intimidating if i do say so.
Just a few ideas. Looking forward to seeing it,l good luck!8Y

I'm with Leech.
When you are going to build something like this, or whatever really, you take some time and search the world for all the prefab-parts you can use. Especially things with high demands on detail and proportions.
I've made a DP a while back and he had a tail or rather a slug-body, and those are , thankfully, quite simple to make from scratch.
Make a basic shape using aluminium foil, then cover it with a thin layer of GS, let cure and then add details like scales the next day.
But try to find as much things you can use as possible. Nowm these things must not come from the world of minatures, there are plenty of plastic toys out there that cost but a fraction of a mini and can supply great parts.
It can also be a good idea to get a nice chonk of blue-tac to use when you try different ideas out, as a sketching material for the quite expensive GreenStuff. Use it to build things way bigger than they'll be on your DP. Things like the eyes or head. A normal modelling clay would probably work even better - again you can find this in a toystore or whatever...
One of the things with GS is how to use it, make sure to read up on some of the tutorials that are out there on the internet... and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Finally... good luck and may the patience be with you.
I'd also just like to add the fact that I really like the answers I'm getting on this board, I put this same topic on Tau Online and only got one reply, its good to get some feedback on Librarium
When I recently made my slaanesh daemon prince I used parts from several inquisitor models, a bit or two from the keeper of secrets and some big parts (such as the wings) from the fantasy Belakor the Master of Darkness model. It worked out pretty well.
For what you're shooting for I'd hit the GW online store and look for component bits from Inquistor chaos models and/or brother artemis (torsos, head to convert, limbs); the components of the various fanatsy 40k daemon princes (current and classic); and I think you can find the tail you need on the fanatasy Lord of Slaanesh's mount (4 pieces totaling $12)
Hope this helps
ok I Finally got some pictures of my old DP to upload, do you think I should keep him, or tear him apart and use him as a base for my new conversion?
and yes those wings are HUGE, almost 5 times the size of the prince himself
NOTE: he is NOT painted, I am not planning to finish him, I just want to know if you guys think I should take him apart for my project
