Welcome to Librarium Online!
Okay, so what I'll start with, is by saying that this is exactly what it says, a WIP ork dreadnaught made basically entirely from plasticard, being as I'm too cheap to afford one myself and I don't particularly like the ork dread models as they are. So on making my own I decided to "stick" to the original dreadies of chaos and SM as close as i could, Not being able to make them exactly to size I used the only thing I could in terms of scale : a picture with some marines around a dreadnaught, which is roughly double the size of a fully fledged marine, giving me a starting point for where I begin.
I do have a sketch but with my poop camera I can't get any decent photos of drawings so I'll just leave that out of it for now, that being said, the pictures of what I'm making are not the best, but I think they give an idea of what I'm going for at the time...
I started with some super thin plasticard, just glueing it together into what I think would be a decent sized chassis for a dreadnaught, Put a few pieces around the edges and random planks on it to make it looks a little beaten up, then of course came the jaw, lobely gubbins!
(note: replaced the original image with one of the backpack I'm making with the head and space marine for scale)
I originally planned to have a much smaller Jaw but as when I did my initial sketch, I wasn't quite sure of the scale I'd be working on, so naturally I'm doing the best with the space I have.
For the arms, I intend to have it very similar to the ork dready, but I'll be making my own pumps and things to go on it, they wont work, because I'm not a genius and have no idea how to do that stuff But I think they will look very good when I'm finished
For the CC arm (as I'm trying to keep it close to a SM dread its going to have a simple 1 cc and 1 ranged arm) it's going to almost be a giant saw, which I was in the process of making but scraped as I wasn't totally happy with the outcome.
The ranged weapon I'm hoping to find a way to make it interchangable so I'm never stuck with the same old dready.
My three gun choices I've narrowed it down to are (for now):
A dual heavy shoota (which I'll make using 3 shootas glued together to form a sort of "minigun" effect)
A rokkit/shoota (obvious what will happen here i think.
and last but not least, a kustom blasta (I can't remember if these are legal with dreadnaughts but since I haven't got an idea of how I'll make one yet, I'm leaving its design out. But thats the basics
I have a set of pipes some larger than others and some fit together quite well which I'll be hopefully using for the limbs so they can move about, even if somewhat limited. And the legs although I do have a nice idea of how I want them set out, will probably require alot of thought before the final parts are put into place.
hope everyone will come check up on me with this project as I look forward to having it finished within a week, and maybe even painted if i get the time
I'll update as soon as i get any particular parts done and comments and criticism is welcome as always
PS! Sorry for spelling the title wrong, My arms are killing me from typing over my "work area" and I didn't realize until it was too late
This here is the packback workings, which I'm currently working on, I guess what I'll do is slowly work on each part of the dread till it all comes together in the end, As I don't want to spend too much time on what annoying task and kind of spread it all around a bit, so it also looks more complete from the outside.
Just a few quick pictures before I goto bed for the night, I'm seriously considering going all out and buying a camera tomorrow just because I'm so sick of this one already, it never does justice... but we shall see...
Here are some photos of the power pack, axle for the legs (needs some bulking up still) the driver (might be hard to see), and another few of the head. Thats it for now, night all!

Ive actually started on the arms, and trying to get the gun to look how I want, the legs I wont be doing till last I think because they will be the hardest part I assume.
for the legs i would use the sentinel or drednought feet then plasticard piping and some guitare wire to make the hydrolics
Looking forward to seeing this grow, keep up the good work!
I have the legs planned out pretty well, but when I decided to make this the idea was to have it as much from scratch as I could, no offence. I thought alot about it last night, and the plan for the chunk of the bottom leg is a curved plate at the front, with a slightly square bit at the back, I have HEAPPPPS of plasticard tubes and pipes so I can make plenty hydralic looking parts, I actually made some yesturday, but once they were finished, I have nowhere to put them that wouldnt make it look like it had monkey arms... I'll get the pics, post em up and you can have a look
Head and power pack:
looking great, keep it up!
could you post a pic with a model to size it up once you've got it assembled? I'm having trouble gaging it.
I just lost my job, so I'll be doing ALOT more I'll take some photos soon with a model for size comparison.
I've come to a point when I'm totally stuck at with what to do next, as the options for the ork dready are so varse, I'll have to make each one, but my basic problem lies in the fact I wanted it to look as though the orks basically copied a SM dread, and by that I mean, one claw and one gun arm.
I'll do some sketches of my predicament either today or tomorrow and post them, but I really am stuck
