So I was sitting around with my Space Marine army, thinking what to do, when I realised having Inquisitor allies as my HQ choice was stupid and most likely illegal. I have my Terminator captain, but he looks like a 'tard and practically my only Terminator (bar a Librarian and Chaplain I bought YEARS ago when I had money in my pocket and felt like buying something. They're still unassembled.) The new Space Marine Commander box set looks nice, but it's £10 and I'm still in parent-debt for my phone.
So I set about converting one from bitz. For some reason I had some spare legs, so I glued the upper body that people always use for Devastator sergeants (with the awesome neck guard) on and plonked a Predator commander head with a bionic eye in it, with a little fiddly regluing (you can't stick a helmet in there usually so i had to pull it apart a teeny bit).
At this point I realised i didn't have a clue what he would wield, so I wrote up a list with him using a Thunder Hammer and Master-Crafted (I think) Bolt Pistol. I like close combat, and didn't have a Power Fist/Lightning Claws and Power Weapons just seem so.. bleh. I also gave him Bionics, Terminator Honours (ofc) and Artificer Armour for the hell of it. I don't want him to die. I think I gave him a Iron Halo for extra protection too - I remember being able to actually make him kill things 'back in the day', might as well pour as much on him as I can. Yes, it's amazingly point-heavy, yes, I love it.
Filed (with a GW plier-cutter-thing) down one of the new Chaos Warrior hammer arms, the one that goes on the Commander and stretches forwards, plastic glued it on and it looks quite nice. A couple of purity seals and it looks even nicer. A Terminator Badge thing from a Dreadnaught on the end and it's very nice. Now for the bolt pistol - off with a Chainsword, bolt pistol on top, fitted with a scope and a purity seal for the hell of it. Looking awesome now, but he feels like a Sergeant, not a beefy Commander.
This is where you (hopefully) come in. What on earth can I do now? I have a bunch of assorted Chaos Warrior, Tyranid and of course Space Marine bits left over from yonks ago, and a bit of greenstuff. I was thinking of adding a Dark Eldar flag piece, which is very thin and looks good attached to his front/back except it's too long. I cut one down and it looked odd, and when I place it on his backpack it seems to far away from his body. Greenstuff.. i've never done much with it, but i'd love to give it a try. Except I suck at it! Bleh.
Anyway, any C+C is much appreciated, have some pictures:
Also, do you think Space Marines could have a bionic face? I have a cool looking Tau bit that looks just like a doodle of a Chaplain with a traffic-light style face.
Thanks in advance
The first thing I'ld do would be to take those horrible mould lines off.
As a commander he should really be a bit fancy, especially his artificered armour.
Maybe give him a cloak or somthing like that?
If he had a bare head he would stand out more.
More ideas coming if I think of any.
Up, up and away!
I don't see why a Commander would go bare-headed, sniper magnet and a half in my opinion. And bald men in suits don't look quite as scary as big, metal monsters in another one of my humble opinions.
And yeah, the mold lines will go, and i'm working on the artificer armour. But that's where i'm stuck :/
Well being bare headed looks cooler, is more fun to paint and shows contempt for the enemy (he is a marine after all).
You could add some rivits or somthing like that to make the armour a bit funkier, I'ld just start sculpting and see what happens but since you have little sculpting experiance perhaps it is best not to. (the last time I did that I started filling gaps and ended up with a scratch built head!)
Up, up and away!
Fun to paint if you can do it right Rivets is an awesome idea, thanks. Any idea how I can cut them out of the material I made the base from (the Large Model bases that used to come in large packs, dunno if they're still around)without buying a hole punch? :/
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.

Drops of PVA glue are said to work, again I'ld sculpt them. You could always cut them off of a thin plastic rod, they cost very little.
Up, up and away!
I love marine helmets anyway, so it's not much of a problem.
EDIT TO REPLY TO YOUS: Yeah! What else am I going to use Spears for! Thanks
Or of course, I could use Necron gau... no. That would be weird.
