Sorry if this is a duplicate thread but i wrote a post before but an error message came up so i dont know if went on...
anyways, im starting an ork army in the new year, how ever much people dont like the new codex. Im using this as more of a show army really. Ive decided to make it all swampy and want to somehow cut off the bottoms of the ork boyzs legs and make thme look like they are submerged in slimy swamp water. How ever i really need an idea for how to do the swamp water effect. ive seen the GW water effect but dont know whether its any good for basing purposes. Ive heard of other effects but dont know if there any better.
I also need some ideas on how to make pond weed and the likes. Just to make them look even more slimy.
Some ideas for the orks :
# Use boats instead of trucks made out of plasticard with various materials and orky bits to make engines.
# as ive said before, i want some kind of weed to cover some of the models... like they have submerged under water or just got itno a bit of a tngle with some weed
#Dont know if cutting of parts of the legs to make them look under the water is a good idea?
well thats about it, alot isnt it?
any comments would be really appreiciated
WIP tau project coming soon.
Heh, bayou Orks with big fanboats...that would be funny. They need straw hats and bib overalls for the complete experience.
Water Effects and the similar products are basically liquid plastic that dries very clear. To get a swamp effect, you'd likely want to mix in some brown and black ink or even some fine sand to get more of a muddy feel. Just a random idea that might work: instead of chopping the legs off, cut out the top of the base, just leaving the circular 'ring'. Put that ring on a base of thin plastic card or even thin cardstock, and then fill it with Water Effects. This way you don't have to worry about the Water Effects running off the the top of the base, and you'll still get a submerged look. And if they aren't deep enough, of course you can remove some feet...
what a great idea this is why i love LO i need some plasticard though...
thanks... i might have ago at that sometime but im still open for more ideas for the swamp and the orks
WIP tau project coming soon.
To get a swampy effect you could just mix sand with PVA and put that on the bases. You could then paint it all muddy when it's dry. I also suggest that you add some reeds and so on. Small plants are good in making the place look more swampy. To make some reeds you can use old brushes. Just cut add a little PVA with water to the bristles. When it is dry you can cut the bristles off and they will stay together because of the PVA.
Then you can glue these to the bases of your models. They will happily take a little brown paint which can be highlighted up to a lighter brown or pale green. I would also suggest having some of your Orks on solid ground. Swamps aren't entirely muck. These Orks won't need to be in muck. Also you could show some puddles or deeper water areas.
You can do this by painting a part of the base with a mix of black and dark angels green. Then put a layer of water effects over it. You could mix a little scaly green with the water effects if you want. One thing that is also often seen in swamps is algae and mossy stuff on the surface of the water. Use some flock on the surface of wet areas, mud, water etc. This can be seen as planty stuff.
give them webbed toes and hands.:rofl
That is not dead which may eternal lie,
for in strange aeons even death may die.
You've got to include an alligator somehow, maybe as an attack squig?
