I guess this is the right thread to post this in, so here goes.
I've come up with an idea for a model...well more of a sculpture really, based on Vampire Counts fluff. It's a model of Abhorash engaged in the titanic struggle with the great dragon he supposedly slew, in order to rid himself of his curse. Any feedback, or ideas to help with the creation would be much appreciated.
I'm not entirely sure...I don't want to use a normal Blood Dragon model, as that lacks originality, but i suppose I could modify it with modelling putty. I want to keep the Blood Dragon theme, but make Abhorash look different, altogether stronger, than normal Blood Dragons. Any ideas?
I'd get the legs from the Chaos Space Marine tactical-squad box. It comes with running legs that give some really cool effects. The upper torso, use the body from a WHFB Chaos Marauder. That will give you a large warrior who seems to have stripped off most of his armor to climb the mountain. The marauders even have some sweet great-weapon-like swords. You'd have to file off the staps and chaos symbols on the legs and torso, and probably use a little GS, but i think that'd be the easiest way to do it. Especially for something big and well-muscled.
What dragon are you going to use? If you patched and reconstructed the actual VC dragon, it would look pretty cool, since it's all coiled up in a "strike pose".
What type of base are you going to use? Are you going to add a background? Any lighting? all cool effects you should think off well before buying your materials.
Can't wait to see it finished though- post pics!
Thanks for the suggestions...I'll bear them in mind. At the moment I'm looking at various models and conversions, judging them on how they look...hopefully I'll have decided on an idea soon, I'll post back with any news soon, maybe with some pics as well, if i can get my camera working.
I think that you should consider taking a look at what new Vampires are on the way. Vampire counts are being re-done and will be out shortly. You will be kicking yourself if you see 'the perfect model' when they come out. I think you should also give alot of thought to the dragon. I would consider trying to make the dragon as big, scary and nasty looking as possible. The wings are one of the most distinctive parts of a dragon.
You could try to have it's wings in a wide pose to make them look threatening. Also I would suggest trying to make sure that the dragon is moving and so is the vampire. Often in display pieces with models fighting it happens that they seem only to be posing near one another and not actually fighting. Try to have them rushing at each other ot in some way reacting to each other. I would aslo suggest that you try to have the dragon and the vampire looking at each other. It is a small detail but if they are looking at each other they will look like they are interacting.
You should also consider the suroundings. It can be easy for the battle to death to end up looking like it only happened in a disused gravel quarry. From what I remember this vampire and dragon fought on a fiery or volcanic mountain top, or somewhere near the top. You should try to make the scene more dramatic and dangerous looking by adding small rivers of lava, skulls etc. All of that will make it look more impressive.
