Welcome to Librarium Online!
I like the play style of tyranids but I'd like to do something different.
I need help on conversion ideas to do a theme/"counts as" army that would be appropriate to use tyranid rules with. All I've come up with so far is a daemon army. Beastmen with talons for genestealers, big demon-gun monsters for carnifexes, daemon princes for hive tyrants, etc. But there isn't really a point to this since there is a demon codex coming out in the near future. Can't really do a theme list with an already existing army.
Any ideas to help me out?
lmao i would LOVE to see an army of big kittys taking on space marines
cats would be an awsome idea for an army lol but how would you mount guns on em???
Loss is acceptable, Failure is not!
I always thought it would be fun to do a splinter of a hive fleet that was trapped on a planet and degenerated to a parasitic existence in the steamy jungles/swamps of the planet, but now they have emerged and taken bodily control over the local imperial garrison.
Think giant brain with claws and a tube stuck in the back of a guardsman. You could model different biomorph as different genetic modifications of the guardsman. For larger critters like carnifexes and hive tyrants you can use chimeras and leman russ for, all sorts of tentacles and other bio-goodness coming out of all the hatches, holes in the side of the tanks, etc... Ogryns can be used in the same manner as the IG but for warrior broods. Maybe sentinels for ravagers. This would be especially good if you wanted to go a little more heavy on the genestealers than anything else. You could even incorporate regular tyranid models if you wanted, just by saying they are the vanguard of the lost fleet come to collect the lost bio-mass, the spark for the invasion of the imperial base. You could even have some guardsmen who are so far along in the process of consumption that they are more goopy-tyranid-parasite than actual human. See here for some inspiration. http://us.games-workshop.com/games/4...eet/j_slug.htm
I like the controlled IG idea. Also the big mech idea. But how would I convert the robot type army? Can't really think of what to use to be large battlesuit type things for carni's or even small things like genestealers. Maybe something with flayed one claws?
I was more thinking, hollow out a chimera or some such, and have all sorts of brain looking, tentacled monstrosity that has taken residence in the hull of the tank. Maybe even have some eyes glowing form the darkness in the tank. One you could even have with legs bursting out of the bottom, so its moves without need of the tank treads. Or you could go a mix of Tau/IG and have Tau battlesuits with aforementioned parasites. Just think lots of eyes, tentacles, spikes. Everywhere. The idea would be to have all their weaponry infected as well, so that biomorph now gets modeled as an infection in the chimera's weaponry, sort of so that its original function is no longer operable, but so that its half biomorph/half original weapon.I like the controlled IG idea. Also the big mech idea. But how would I convert the robot type army? Can't really think of what to use to be large battlesuit type things for carni's or even small things like genestealers. For the Genestealers, you could just use regular IG (or Kaskrins to delineate from the various gaunts.) but have claws growing from their backs/forearms as part of the parasitic takeover.
Tau/IG might be the way to go. The battlesuits are a bit more manageable in the size department, and it would be neat to see "corrupted" Tau, since you don't often see that.
I do very much like the idea of the parasitic takeover of men a vehicles - very cool and very doable with enough effort put into conversion and the like. They don't have to be related to the hive mind at all - just some strange parasitic lifeform present on a planet both the IG and Tau were fighting over. Be careful how you model them however, as you could easily make it look too much like Chaos infestation where IG stuff in concerned.
My idea when I first read this thread was of Dragons. Sounds silly now I suppose, but a world infected with dragon-like life forms. Different types of dragon (LINKI) could represent different tyranid beasties; some with wings, some without. Much more difficult to achieve (unless you have a ready supply of dragon models), but I thought I'd put it out there none the less.
Good luck with the theme. I'll think about it a little more.
