It doesn't look to bad but appears to be a bit heavy handed. By that I think the dark shading is too dominate and more blending and finer painting detail will make the difference. I think your suffering from what I'm suffering from which is a lack of practice. What I think would be good if you could paint up a few mini's in quick succession and see if you can enhance your painting skills by making the highlights and low lights finer, with a smoother blending.
Also check out the painting articles both here and CMON for extra pointers.
Diabolus fecit, ut id facerem!
Overall not a bad figure. Strong point is definitely the face. I think your paints are too thick and in some cases you went from a dark color to a much too light color transition. For example on the scrolls. They are very dark and then you have what looks to be a bone or graveyard earth highlight.
I would focus in the future to paint thinner layers. It is really telling on the lightning claws. You can see the bumps of paint dried in between the blades. Also work to be just a tad neater especially around the base. Static grass is sticking to the side. Nitpick I know but...
I think you have the right ideas and for the most part they execute well enough that for a gaming piece I would not complain about. Keep up the good work and please continue to share!
