Hi, i have a medium skill level for painting but i have one demanding problem....HOW DO YOU PAINT THE ACTUAL BOLT THROWER!!! -series of cussing-0:
tips on everything from wood grain to metal is greatley appriciated:C
For metal, start off with an undercoat of black, then work your way up through grays and silvers/metal colors. (I don't use the games workshop paint, so I'm not totally sure what colors you would use.)
Hey! Look at the little.... Oh ****!
Painting wood grain on an untextured model is really hard, I just wouldn't if I was you. As for metals approach them as you do normally.
Wood tips: paint the surface bestial brown, paint the grain lines in with a bestial brown/ fortress grey mix, wash it with thinned black paint.
Metal: start with black/ boltgun mix, hilight with boltgun, then chainmail, shade near the edges with black/ boltgun mix.
That's how I did them for my beastmen.

Boltgun metal? a darker version of chainmail, basically just silver and black.
