Inspired by Blue Table Painting, and photographed with my phone, here is the first WIP shot of my under construction Tyranid Trygon. I stole and filed down the black talons from my old Carnifex, which allowed him to be properly upgraded to a VC/BS in the process. He has been included for scale purposes. Here they are:
From what you can see in the picture, it's looking really good. What did you use for the tail, or is that fully scratch built?
Thousand Sons ~2750 points | Eldar ~1000 points
Tzeentch Daemons ~2000 points
The tail came from a McFarlane Dragon. It is from the Warrior Dragon from Series 6. He also has some nice wings and other bits I will be hacking off of there, and he provided that awesome base. The tail pops right off, and after some careful trimming, it fits well in the lower torso opening in the Carnifex. I tried to pose his right talons in a sort of "I'm going to be killing quite a few of you guys now." kind of pose that a Trygon desrves. The head is not glued in place, but was placed there for the picture.
$15 or so for the Dragon, the 'Fex from a Batlleforce and one night's work. 8Y
I also assembled the tail and leg section of the Carnifex on its original base, as I could reasonably use him as a Screamer-Killer Carnifex configuration - ignoring the third set of scything talons.
Thanks for the feedback. Now that she's to this stage, the weekend should prove quite productive for my Nid army (see list in Tyranid Army List section for details on the rest of her friends).
Here's another fuzzy pic that might provide a bit more detail:
I hate to say this but unless all your carnifexes are the old edition metal ones, scale-wise, that's a little too small to be a trygon.
They all do happen to be like that model you see there. I wish I could have raised his torso up higher, but that tail is quite long. His relative height betrays his true overall mass compared to the rest of my guys. That base is probably 9 or 10 inches wide, and he covers it from one side almost to the other.
Fortunately, those I play against won't likely have a problem with him.
The Trygon has loads of small hook-like apendages all along it's body. You could try to add things like this to make more Trygonish. I think if there are going to be problems the big one will be in making sure that you opponents can tell the difference easily.
It is clearly a Tyrgon to me but some people may not see it that way. Make sure you try to make it stand out. Also it is cool looking. The flow of movement you have in it is very good. I also think it looks big and nasty. The tail choice is good as the spines on the tail remind me of a centipede. A Trygon is basically a giant alien centipede.
Looks alright, I just don't like the idea, it doesn't seem right to me.
And why would you give bio-plasma to a fex?
It's a waste of points.
I think it's looking really awsome at the moment. As i don't have a real interest or knowledge on Nids i would say!
Get him Painted
My homage to my time spent at Libararium Online:
Thanks for the continued feedback. Expect some painted shots in the very near future.
