    Rudy's Trisomyfex

I've revived this old project called the Trisomyfex, which a Carnifex conversion that I started almost a year ago. The image is obviously a WIP. The Carnifex hasn't technically been glued to the base, nor has the torsos and arms. I just did a mock-up to see what it would look like. As some of you can relate to, other Nid projects and the real-world have been the only reason why I haven't been able to work on this project until the past month or so.

Other than the Forge World crushing claws, the most salient piece is the weapon I called the poison voraxer. The weapon does NOT have any special rules. I just wanted to make a gun that could essentially make the two primary weapon configurations to make the Sniperfex (Venom Cannon/Barbed Strangler) and the Dakkafex (2 TL Devouers)

    UPDATE: Feb 21, 2008
I'm in a rush today, so I'll try to clean up this post later. In the meantime here's the progress I've made with the Trisomyfex so far.

Rudy - another cool conversion - looks good. :-)

    Reminds me of this: http://www.hivefleetmoloch.de/exocrine_sketch_02.htm

If you don't mind me asking: where do you get your bitz from? I always run short and it seems a bit rich sometimes to buy a whole box for one piece. (eg. you have to buy three boxes of warriors so you can get three warrior rending claws to make one CC squad - nine models just to make the three you're after!)

    Cya,
    Andrew.

P.S. Yeah, I know that GW is clamping down on bitz stores. Still ...

I wanted to apologize for this late response. I often write replies from work (during breaks or if I'm in the middle of doing something else). However, sometimes my work blocks this site. I haven't quite figured out why some days I can post and some I cannot.

Anyway, I definitely use any of Marco's nids as inspiration, as I think he sets the standard for Tyranid models. I know of the Exocrine sketch, but I've also seen a few Nid players decide to make a Carnifex inspired by the bioviore model. To me it makes sense that its feasible for some Tyranid Hives to have units that are an amalgamation of other units.

In regards to buying bitz, I usually have extra bitz from other models I've built. For instance, when I make a Devilfex (I usually have both the Venom Cannon and Barbed Strangler as bitz). I also use the direct services from GW to purchase individual bitz orders. I can totally relate to your issues with the lack of rending claws, as I own several CC Warriors, and 6 Raveners. I tend to use the rending claws from the Lictor, Brood Lord, or the Lictor Death Leaper.

I spoke with Sanchez, who is a Direct Services Rep from the US site. From what I understand from a Global perspective they're trying to evaluate the bitz order system. GW has amased a ton of bitz, many of which no one buys anymore. In additon, some consumers have tried ordering bitz from the US site, stating that they see the bitz available on the UK site. However each warehouse is different and has a different set of inventories. So from what I understand the US company (if not the entire GW globally) is no longer taking bitz orders, in order to re-evaluate the financial feasiblity of the process. I asked them to see if they could give an estimate, but he honestly couldn't give me an answer because he didn't know it himself.

I assume there are some online bitz-stores somewhere. However if there isn't. Let me know. I'll see if I can contact some people on my end to see if we can help a fellow Tyranid player out!

That Carnifex looks cool. I like the gun you made for it the 'poison voraxer'. I think what is best is how you have used all of those bits and pieces together to make up all of it's various parts. I understand that the poison voraxer is a 'counts as' part but do you have any fluff for your new weapon, such as how it's meant to work. I have always liked to read about tyranid wierdness in how they create bio-weapons do they can do things such as shooting people etc.

Again I think your Carnifex is very cool.8Y Rep for thee.
You will need to show us the whole thing once it's glued to it's base and any final work is done.

No worries - and I appreciate the offer, but I've resolved the bits problem the good ol' fashioned way to date - swapping with fellow hobbyists at the store. GW Australia also doesn't offer bits (in the way that the US site does.)

Anyway ... I would prefer to give the margin to GW directly to support the hobby (rather than to some third party) if GW could sell them to me. Perhaps something like selling the 'options sprues' separately (which would require no manufacturing change or post-processing might make more sense for GW.

It's an interesting logistics and inventory problem for GW. I'm interested to see what they come up with.

Thanks to a bout of insomnia I was able to do some work on my Trisomyfex

When it comes to painting Carnifexes, I prefer painting the torsos separately.
Here's a 90% finished pic of the lower torso and base. The base still needs work, as I need to add lichen, static grass, but I think its pretty good.

    I also thought I'd show you a
mock-up of the Carnifex with the torso and tentative head. I think the "poison voraxer" is coming along nicely, although I'm a bit worried about how good the detail will be. In this pic, I've drybrushed a coat of Astronomicon Grey (Foundation paint), added a quick light coat of that color. Then drybrushed it with Skull white. These are steps I take before I start adding 2-4 layers of Skull white. I'm still having trouble with the head, as I'm not convinced of its overall look yet. As this will most likely be used as a Sniperfex for 90% of my games, I really want to find a different way to model the enhanced senses biomorph. I have some ideas, but nothing I'm totally convinced with yet. I'm open to new ideas.

Finally, I figured it was appropriate to show what the TrisomyFex would appear fully assembled
