I started playing Dark Crusades again, trying the necrons, and I LOVE their lords. I was disappointed however when I saw the standard GW lord. Would anyone have any ideas on how to convert/build piece by piece a lord that looks like this
I was thinking of getting the destroyer torso, that would take care of the torso, spines, etc. Cape would be easy to make with gs. My problem is which head would be best, and legs. I know guitar wire could be used for the cords, but any advice would help
What does Slaanesh use to fish?
Haha, wow thats khorney
I've started a conversion based on this image. And while it isnt exactly the same (mine is riding scarabs and has a buge warscythe) I used a destroyer torso and immortal legs, extended the spine and used the cape from setra (warhammer fantasy), I also built a burial mask out of plasticard because I saw an image of another DoW lord I really liked. I'm in the middle of painting it and I've ment to post an update, guess I'll do that soon.
Also, for the extra armour I cut the shoulder blades off of a regular warrior torso and glued them on upside down butted up agaisnt the destoyer torso's shoulder blades and then hid the gaps with green stuff. It doesnt make an exact match as the illustration has 2 distinct pieces of armour, but I liked the way it curved around towards the front right under his arms. As for the head, I used a regular warrior head and as I said before made a mask out of thin plasticard.

I'm actually in the process of making a lord based on this same concept.
Here's what bits I used, all available at BITS AND KITS UK - Home
I used the arm with the ressurection orb:
(however the actual Staff of light was made form palsticard)
Regular Necron legs w/ plastic tubing for extra pistons on the thighs
Cape made from Brown stuff:
Brown/Aluminum Epoxy Modeling Putty
(you can sand brown stuff to a smoother finish than green stuff)
I made the spinal column from sheet plastic and sliced half-round rods.
And don't use guitar wire, use this instead:
They are from Dragonforge. Pewter cast guitar wire. they do not have the springiness of guitar wire and are way easier to cut and bend. they hold shape well and look great.
Hope this helps.
I had a spare Destroyer lord so i decided to give it a try a while ago..
use the head and chest off D.lord Warrior legs, green stuff and wires
expand the legs a little by cuttin wiring and greenstuffing the thighs and calfs of the warrior legs. green stuff the legs to make them more bulky. Green stuff the back plate (which is baisically the same as immortals so isnt hard) cape from greenstuff and you have the res orb/staff with the destroyer.
i wouldnt really use the res orb from the destroyer lord set because its way too short for some reason..
but yeh thats pretty much it =]
hope i helped
The Warforge: Miniature Modelling & Conversion
This guy is in the middle of a similar conversion. His main focus is on making internal light for it, but his ideas and progression thus far might be inspirational. Enjoy, and good luck!
The Emperor set a fire in their hearts that they might burn the iniquitous and the impure from his sight. And the light of that flame shall be as a beacon to the faithful, a light that shines in the darkest places.
If you are up to it, use green stuff to custom make any shape you need. Make a ruff shape, Let it dry overnight, then carve away what you dont need and attach it to a base necron lord
