I decided that I wanted to get a Dreadnought to add some firepower to my Iron Warriors army, but I really despise the look of the Chaos Dreadnought, I think it's ugly as sin. After seeing a conversion done on a Space Marine Dread to make it Chaos-y (I think I saw it while lurking here, actually), I was struck by the idea, so arming myself with an SM Dread, some green stuff and some Defiler bits out of my bits box, I set about warping the armoured beast to a more evil bent, and this is the result so far.
Please go easy on me, I've only been collecting WH40K for a few months now, and this is my first proper bit of conversion work
Apologies for the blurry pictures, I took these on my mobile phone camera:
Comments (good or bad, so long as they are constructive! ^_^ ), suggestions, and ideas would be gladly welcomed
The arms are slotted on, I'm not going to glue them on as I want to change them out for other weapons I plan to get from Forgeworld, the assault cannon won't be staying long, although I wish Chaos could use it :-(
That's a mighty fine dreadnought you have there! And in the best Chaos legion as well!
Overall you have done enough to make it chaotic and a nice paintjob is all that is needed kidding, paint it as well as you can and post some pics up when it's done.
As for suggestions, I don't really have any as what you've done is all I can think of. Just wait until Master of Iron Lord Danjones see this...I'm sure he'll be full of advice and help! ;Y
*reps* Can't wait to see more of your work as you get into the hobby and I hope you enjoy LO very much!
Sorry, it double posted! My humble apologies... *bows*

There are 2 suggestions I have:
1. I would add some kind of chaos trim in a few areas.
You can get a really thin sheet plastic and cut out a couple of arrow shapes and glue them on in key spots. Like maybe on the shoulder area or the leg guards.
2. Shave off the Adeptus Mechanicus symbol on the back. or at least convert it into a Dark Mechanicus symbol.
But other than that I think it looks awesome. Great job!
Reminds me of the first Iron Warriors dread I did when I started collecting 40k.:;Y
Thank you very much for the kind words, Blackadder, you sure know how to make new people feel welcomed ;Y
Wicked dude! In comparison between SM and chaos dreads, I love the SM one more, it looks like a fully fledged killing machine but the chaos one just looks weak and crap next to it, I've wanted to do something similar to this for ages but I'm too broke. Hazaa!
Very Nicely executed Dread you have. I too dislike strongly the GW chaos dread but What you have done is very nice.
1. It still seems too imperial to me maybe because it has not been painted yet but I still feel that there should be some more chaosness added to it
as has already been suggested some chaos arrows could clear that up you could always add more chains or skulls
I can not wait to see it painted up so keep up the good work
Its a very nice model.
I have a few suggestions and comments.
1. Take a day or two break from the project (to refresh your mind) then come back and check for any imperial glyphs, insignia, emblems, ect.....
2. I know it looks very much like a regular space marine one, however that is because its the sm plastics, the paintjob is what will make it look chaos and fit into your army.
3. Nice work on the magnets just make sure you glue them together properly, lol my bro messed this up and had to remove and reglue a few magnets. It was hilarious.
4. Nothen screams chaos like some dead imperials on the base. !!!!!!

I don't think the Dark Mechanicus symbol looks all that different from that of the regular Mechanicus...all the books I've read merely describe it as a "warped", "perverted", or "twisted" version of the regular cog-and-skull symbol. Maybe make some greenstuff or plasticard arrows to transform the regular cog into a Star of Chaos cog with eight points or something. But, as has been stated, I think that for a conversion like this the paintjob will really go a long way towards eliminating any lingering Imperial similarities.
The Emperor set a fire in their hearts that they might burn the iniquitous and the impure from his sight. And the light of that flame shall be as a beacon to the faithful, a light that shines in the darkest places.
You could use one from the chaos vehicle upgrade sprue. There never was an "official" Dark Mechanicus symbol I've seen. Just what was mentioned in the Horus Heresy art books.
If anyone does have a pic of the Dark Mechanicus symbol, please post it!
