Title says it all, I need help in painting my warp-spiders. Looking at the back of the box, It looks like I need to start with a black, then paint my red on top. Ive also red that doing red over black is a pain. Any help or a link to a guide for painting spiders?
Actually theres a pretty simple way to do warp spiders in the official warrior colors.
Drybrush metal under the shell on all bitz
paint black on the body suit of the spider
Paint major armor plates scab red
layer up to red gore maybe three layers
Highlight with blood red
Thats an ok way to get em tabletop that i used to do with my first eldar army. From this point just do the rest of the parts as you like (GUN, eyes, icons,...)
"They shall all taste OBLIVION!,.....which tastes like Red Bull, which is disgusting."
i prime all my models black. something to remember when painting over black is to use layers, it makes the model look much deeper as well as better coverage. The best thing to do with red over black is to start with red gore over the black. Get this nice and smooth, it may take 2 coats. At that point the blood red goes on perfectly, just don't paint in the recesses and it even looks like you used an ink.
The helmet is about the same, i used a brown as i wanted it to look just a bit dirty. Use water downed white in layers to cover the brown.
Be sure to cover the black with black to be sure there is a nice coat. Depending on your colors, just cover the areas silver that you want, the highlight the red with a mix of white and red, or an orange, it will look red behind the red.
The exarch's webbing on his pants paint ice blue then one or two then coats of white. Hope this helps,
I think Mechrite Red would solve your problems. Here's the UK web store page for the Foundation paints: Games Workshop Online Store — Foundation Paints
Mechrite Red is pretty close to Scab Red and you only really need 1-3 thin coats(depending on how watered down it is) to achieve a decent red colour for your Warp Spiders.
Hope this helps ya!
Just what he said!
Another one for the Foundation chorus. I agree with Inquisitor Blackadder. I know some people dislike them but honestly I have found them to be a huge aid.
One other idea for the webbing designs on their carapace's is to get some web designs off the web and print them onto Testors transfer paper and then you have your own unique decals.
