Welcome to Librarium Online!
Does anyone out there base their vehicles (and I'm addressing the question not so much to modelers but players)? I have had friends point out that doing so would render the vehicle useless for game play, but I don't see the problem. You're still going to measure the shot from the vehicle and not the base it sits on.
If any of you have, perhaps you could share info on materials and techniques. . .and pix would be appreciated!
I wouldn't base tanks, but I base flyers and I plan to base my defiler. For smaller flyers I use 40mm black plastic bases instead of the tacky clear ones and decorate them. For my defilers I plan on using a custom base similar to the size of a CD.
There is a rule somewhere in the 40k book that says you can make a model on a base larger (but not smaller) than the one that comes with the model, within reason of course. So you can make all your lords on 40mm instead of 25mm if you felt like it, or replace the clear flyer bases with 40mm's, or base a defiler, or use a larger base for bikes than the crappy calvary base provided.8Y
They might not like it in official tournies, but I don't see any reason why it would be frowned upon anywhere else. I mean it's in the book, and the book is law. :rofl
i don't know about basing a vehicle; since it wouldn't sit right over some terrain with a base that size; same thing for a defiler, while i love being able to plop him on the side of a building in makeshift model of him grasping at the crunchies inside, the main thing that sometimes gets me for him, is measuring distances, since his appendages tend to be spread out much more than convenient.
