Ok so I'm trying to decide on a modelling project. It's something that I won't be start for a while yet due to funds and getting married and things like that, but maybe start it around mid-summer.
First idea is an Adeptus Arbites army. Would probably make it around 650 pts. I have been tossing around the idea of a 4x4 city / cites of of death terrain table so this would be the perfect army for a board that size. As far as models would probably use cadian parts mostly, along with some forgeworld stuff. Still going to be tough to get them to look like Arbites officers tho I think. I know there is a necromunda box set, but what would be the fun in that?? Having trouble with ideas for power mauls/riot shields tho. Shields could probably be made from plasticard, but that still leaves the mauls.
Second is an Imperial Guard army themed around the mutants in Fallout. Harold would lead them into battle, and yes I'd put a twig in his forehead . Not really sure on point size yet. As far as models only things I've really come up with so far is maybe combining the cadian and zombie box sets. Desert/wasteland scheme obviously. They would all have different stages of radiation decay. I could however see this project as being more costly than the Arbites force, but if one could pull it of would probably look pretty frickin awesome.
So any ideas/input would be much appreciated. I'm still a novice modeller/painter, so I might be biting off more than I can chew too...idk. Thanks!
an Adeptus Arbites army would be fun. I know GW has arbites models in the necromunda range, the only problem is its 40 bucks for 6 guys and a robot dog : /
but it's th ehelmets etc that'll get you - you could try pig iron heads, or maybe medeival helmets of some kind
The zombies - a on/of project of mine. their main problem is that out of 5 variable parts only 3x heads (no female or too many bearded) 3x bodies (leather jerkin & nightdress look bad) and 3x right arms work (and 5 left)
you also have dificulty putting them on les - the cadians aren't emaciated enough, and the belts are wrong (catchans are even worse, bar 2x heads, trust me)
P.s have you seen the GW website creature feature? zombie hordes (we gave them a house rule of 4+ bionics - much better)
I'm putting them into a chaos/undead army (Witch hunter adversaries or Straight up Imperial guard - just different looking) that i'm slowly buiding up. (awaiting old style skeletons to go with cadian torsos, and F/W renegade militia arms. May get F/W plage zombies for evil grey knight allies if i feel flush.
P.S. for the chaos H/w's they all have those roaring heads at the end of the barrell - and i've laid my hands on a spare dragon head for the Leman Russ to go with it.

Scotia Grendel junker plastic sprue. It's relatively cheap plus you could use the models and bits for other conversions.
Mauls - a piece of paper clip with some plasticard/putty should do.

For my Arbites I'm using Cadians w/ shotties and FW respirator heads. I'm also going to be using riot shields and batons from the necromunda range (ordered them prior to the bitz order system getting raped).
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
You could use the faceplates from dreadnaughts for riot-shields. they even have the little visor in them. Maces and helms can come out of the Empire Knight's box. Shotguns and carapace off the SM Scouts box.
Zombie 40k is tough, i avoid it.
