Hey everyone. I just picked up warhammer and im looking for advice from some veterans on a lizzy color scheme; I'd appreciate anything you have to give.
This is my thinking:
1. No Blue. Everyone does blue.
2. Maybe Green. Still very overdone.
3. Red and Brown might work. I havent tried these colors yet, but I feel theyre too heavy.
4. Yellow/Yellow-Brown, Rich Orange and Rich Purple. Yellow/Purple would be sick xD.
These are two test ive done. First models :o
I didnt like the black here, so I changed the scales to a dark dark yellow, which works out to be close to camo green. The yellow skin is blinding.
Back. The skin is more dull here than in the first of the models, but its still severe; plan to do another.
The colors may be better if I go with something more like a caiman lizard, here. Its not so much like staring into the sun, and its organic
But. Here's a blue one I found. looks great - but I dont want blue - but its really no so similiar to all the other blue lizzy I see. Question is: why not paint in blue? -I want to be original
So, what do you think? I have access to all paints in the citadel range
I don't know if I am a fan of the yellow and purple, it just seems too garrish, and that vibrant of a yellow just seems to intense. Try looking for more organic colors, I suggest looking at actual reptiles for ideas. Check out some gecko's as they usually have stong coloration, crested geckos and day geckos might be your best bet. Here are a few photos for example.

These are mainly yellow, red color shemes. I guess my point is, try going for more muted colors, it can still be vibrant, just dont blind your opponent...unless thats your tactic of course.
Bump for great success!
Try looking at pictures of poison dart frogs. They have some of the most fantastic color schemes in nature and come in a variety of contrasting colors. A bright purple with black spots scheme comes to mind. Red and black is another, as well as orange and blue.

Red/Yellow/Orange is what I went with for the basic army – Skinks, Saurus, Krox, and the like; while the Stagadoan, Terradon and Salamander I painted Black/White, Green and Purple/Pink respectively. The overall theme of my army was Desert - since lizards do reside there its feasible and looks cool. I based all of them with sand and dry brush. And in more than one trip to GW I’ve gotten comments on the originality.
This is just what I did and what worked for me...
