Hi! This is my first ever attempt at painting. I got into Warhammer about a week ago and bought the Tyranid battleforce plus some basic gear.
As you can see, my first attempt was a pretty much failure as I'm no good at art.
I could really use some help on painting using the colors I have - white, green, light blue, dark red, orange and pink, to make the rest of my hormagaunts decent looking. Any suggestions?
personally, me, i would drop the green on the armor and the oldish look on them. other then that.. you pained better then i did 0.o Good job and WELCOME TO THE SWARM!
Thanks for the tip, I'll do that for my next gaunt! I guess my problem wass that I just couldn't make up my mind, and ended up with way too much uneeded paint =D
well what you have there is good, like i said, it is better then my old way of painting. but as you said, there is some unused paint. but if thats the only one, make him like, a fluffy gaunt, tell your opponent that he killed a daemon prince and he is the only one that was left in the squad or what ever right.. but yeah.. oh, your 1st picture is the only "good" one because of the lighting, i would love to see what you are going to do with the other gaunts, so when your done them, post em =D
Great first attempt. Your model is a little busy with all the colors. With my nids I kept it to 3 colors to start. I am not exactly an authority on painting though , but I have to say thats a good try. HF Cobra had good advice I think getting rid of the green could go far to make the model look better.
(also with gaunts they always look better in broods of 24+ especially if they all look the same).
Yeah, I should've stuck to 3 colors, and the green did look pretty ugly, so I decided to repaint my guy by overlapping the original paint. My repainted gaunt is posted at the bottom, and I gotta admit, it does look a whole lot better without green.
I've taken your advice into consideration and it turned out pretty well! The pink still looks a little out of place, but at least it doesn't look like a mess anymore so I'll probably keep it for now. I also tried to adjust the lighting a little. Hope it's better.
The gaunt with the scything talons isn't finished yet, but I thought the black and darkred look pretty cool together.
I quite really like it (the first one), it looks funky as a bug should although I would seriously consifer switching the pink on the claws for blacl or some such. The later ones lack the same flavour, I'm sorry to say.
Up, up and away!
Aye, they look good. I suggest that you do some highlighting with either a lighter red brown or just a lighter brown. Also I think he could use a chestnut ink wash. Other then that they looks good. great job.
I think that with practice(and you know you will get it with all of those gaunts) you will keep improving. Also, I think that you paint is a little thick. Besides that it looks good. Bright like a bug, but menacing like a gaunt.
The Great Plague meets The Devourer of The Galaxy. What does that make us?
