Using the 3 color combination that I use for my Vampire Counts army I mocked up some shield ideas in photoshop (I used the old empire swordsmen shields). I've got two that I think I like the best, but I'm looking for some advice on which ones people like most. My army has an empire feel to it as I have converted state troop zombies, swordsmen shielded skeletons, and I will convert some new black knights and greatsword grave guard.
Here are some examples:

The ones that would make most sense IMO are the yellow cross on quartered black and red, followed by the black cross on red and red cross on black.
The black on yellow and red on yellow look a little too bright and happy for Vampire Counts army, while yellow on black reminds me of the 40k Black Templars too much.
As TFH says... although i think the second line would make a good impact...
Have you given this a thought...?
Thanks to all the people showing faith in me
I sometimes feel that everyone will leave me and they will be on their own...
I'd go with a black or red background - they suit vampire counts the most, unless you pull the yellow off well on your troops and vampires as a consistent colour - but it doesn't contrast with bone too much. It depends on your character choices - if you want black robed necromancers i'd use black shields, unless you use black with red as an obvious secondary colour. If you want red characters, go for red shields.
As for quartering, it's a pain to paint and I doubt skeletons are going to sit around making it all neat. Unless they stole em off some Brettonians
The black shield with the yellow outline and the Templar symbol is red...it is in the middle, that is may favorite.
