Ive painted my deathwing dreadnought drop pod, and im pleased with the results, the only problem is, it looks as if its just come out the drop pod shop!
Can anyone provide a tutorial or any help for how i'd get 'burn' marks from atmosphere entry like those on these images?

Just paint black in the pattern you see there, and then paint a very dark brown (1:1 Scorched Brown:Chaos Black) inside of that. That should create a simple, easy effect, that looks fine.
To elaborate on the previous post... I would start with just a darker brown by itself - scorched brown is fine... Then mix in black and finally black by itself...
Using a larger brush (at least size 1) make striated lines up away from the bottom. Start with the brown, then mix the brown and black and make another set of lines - letting some of the previous layer show through, follow that with the pure black. On the pure black keep the lines mainly towards the bottom/edge rather than go all the way up. Basically the black would represent where it was the hottest...
