Ok, the idea behind it may be strange, but I am planning in the long (long, long, long) term to get a Pre-Heresy Emperors Children army that could feasibly be used in the 41st millennium. The idea is that a few marines remained loyal to the Emperor all those years ago.
The army would use Blood Angel rules, with Marines that become mutated by Chaos (I'm thinking Slaanesh?) representing the Death Company. They go around claiming to be the Emperors most loyal servants to isolated worlds to gain supplies, and only unleash their "Death Company" when there is no other choice. They would also go under the name of Knight Angels to cover their dark past. And allow me to field them against people who think this is absurd.
1: Any thoughts on the fluff? And,
2: Any thoughts on how to make them stand out. I have little to no experience with conversions, so I would be looking for extra pieces to add, poses that seem suitable etc. Or beginner conversions.
Battlecries: Sorbr'and Tau force: For the Greater Good!
Ordo Corvus Witch Hunters: Only in our flames will the heretic find peace!
Thats an odd idea, but kinda cool.
For fluff the only thing i could think of was they were with the renegades during the dropsite massacre, but realised that what they were doing was wrong, and soon after stole a cruiser and ran off, knowing that they would never be able to return to being loyal after being involved in the dropsite massacre, and not wanting to be apart of Horus' rebellion. After hearing of the legions being broken down into chapters, they used this to re-emerge, but now known as the Knight Angels, and are on a mission to repent the sins of their former brothers!
As for modelling i used to be a regular on an active pre-heresy website, where everything was geared towards the modelling and fluff of pre-heresy armies, i'll try and find the link and edit this post if i do
EDIT: It doesn't exist anymore, think it all took off and went really well when the HH books were first released, but its no longer up, sorry bud
