I am in the process of finishing my necron army and I would like some advice on choosing a 3 part colour scheme for my bases. e.g. the basecoat, a dry brush, then a highlight. I am trying to emulate a planet surface like mars (red or rusty) to contrast with the blueish gray and silver that is the colour of the army. Any suggestions?
put glue on the base, then throw some sand and a few small rocks on the base. Then paint first Scorched brown, lightly drybrush bleached Bone, and then paint on a wet layer or two of Scab Red. Finish with a light highlighting drybrush of blood red.

Maybe a basecoat os 1:1 scorched & blazing orange. Then give it washes of various browns? (don't use inks they give a glossy finish which ain't normal).
CHK CHK BOOM!
You could try the new Citadel washes- much better than inks as they dont dry with a gloss finish.
Id try overbrushing the sand with the orange foundation paint, giving that a wash of devlan mud then highlight with a red/orange (at whatever brightness you'd want)
Then again thats just off the top of my head!
