i'm going to try to re enter the 40k hobby, and i need something small to work on. i ave SM, CSM, and IG bits, GS, and a bit of repressed skill. what should i make? anything what's terminator or smaller sized will fly in my book.
I'd go with something important, like your main HQ or a Squad Leader.
As for what army to go with, I'd go with one of the Marines. I can imagine those being a little easier to GS, and you can make the standard marine (either Power Armor or Termi), and then add bits depending on which faction you decide on.
Half Gods are worshiped with Wine and Flowers. Real Gods are worshiped in Blood.
Blood for the Blood God! Beer for the Bronze Keg!
I'd go with Deathwatch space marinesas they're under represented and can be an HQ for any imperial army. Each member can be individualised o there home chapter with greenstuffed chapter icons and tokens i.e. spcae wolf with wolfpets, Blood angel with tear drops, black templar with chains, etc.

I wouldn't begin with the HQ, IMO the hg is the model you should be most proud off, so practice on some lesser models to begin with and then move on to the show case models!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The Dutch Legion
Why don't you buy that paint set that comes with a few models? You get some good paint and some good practice models to boot! Plus it's pretty cheap considering everything that it comes with.
This is sort of what I'm talking about. I've seen an older one that comes with three marines and three tyranids too, but the idea is still the same. Even if you already have some paint, it sounds to me like it's been sitting dormant for a long time and that's never good.

@ Helbrecht - pretty good idea, i think this is what i'll try. i have enough space marines laying around so that i can try this without any losses.
@ Sister Bluebird - i'm not really a painter as much of a modeler, but i will be painting if i feel like it. i have a Vallejo Game Color paint set, it's pretty nice, but i'd imagine they're very well settled and need a good shake.
