    Dark Eldar Painting tips

    Greetings,

I was hoping someone could give me some ideas as to how to recreate the painting scheme displayed on the Dark Eldar in the 4th ed. rulebook, in the two-page spread under their (brief) section? It looks like they just took an undercoat of chaos black and used a green to highlight the raised portions, but I really don't know, hence the post. I intend to use a different color, but would really like the same effect.

    thanks, I appreciate it.

They used a technique called line highlighting or extreme highlighting. The basic technique is very simple, paint the base color whatever you wish then apply your base highlight by painting a thin line around the edge of the armor followed by a lighter highlight on top of that. Usuall the second line highlight is where the light source would strike the edge of the armor. For some example i suggest looking at space marine armor where this technique is most common, especially on dark colored armor.

Hopefully you can see it in this picture the armor is basecoated black with the armor highlighted regal blue followed by shadow grey.
