How do you go about painting chips in paint (ie to make a SM armour look battle warn)
Every time I do it just looks like I have painted silver on top.
You can try to use a more dull and dirty shade or metal than silver which is very bright, boltgun metal is good. I think you may also be using too much paint, try to use only small amounts and the chips won't stand out as much. You can try to apply some watered down black to the area and then paint the metal on to that area. The black will help to shade it and make it look more realistic. You can also try to use a lighter shade of metal on top of a darker shade, such as silver on top of boltgun metal. I would suggest that you also use a fine detail brush for this.
Chips? I thought you meant cooked pieces of sliced potato or as they are also known french fries.
"Another way is to use a darker shade of the armour you are painting and paint the chips on with that (20/0 size brush?) just make sure a put them in logical places and make the shapes small and as random as possible. It is important to also paint a very white (or very light) highlight underneath the chips. When painting them it is also best to have all the different shades of your armour colour on a palette so you can fix up any mistake.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Well as you can tell I did not write that. It was written by the guy who took the sword in 2007 Australian GD. I was wondering how he did the chipped armour on his marine and that is what his advise was.
I hope it is of some use
CHK CHK BOOM!
Black Gobbo had an issue that mostly focused on battle damage/wear and tear. Look up black gobbo and file through the issues, you can learn a lot from them!
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
Why Would You Want To Paint Chips I Know There Nice With Vinigar, salt Or Mayo But Paints A Bit Much!!!
