Hey guys I think I'm going to try and either scratch build myself some Imperial aircraft, or find semi-decent proxy models from other model companies, such as German Revell.
So my question is- does anyone know the dimensions of either the thunderbolt or the marauder, or even the plane's real-life equivalent? For instance, the marauder looks kinda similar to the B-17 Flying Fortress, but meh. If anyone has any good suggestions, i would appreciate any info. Thanks!
Are you after the actual dimensions of the model or the "real life" dimensions?
You might have to tread a bit carefully here - if you're mocking up your own, you might want to just check that that's ok with GW copywright lays - I'm sure it is, but it never hurts to be certain!
The Marauder has a wingspan of 18".
I don't know any more dimensions, however I do know that you can find templates for both of those at the BWC Archives Yahoo group. The end product is too small, but with resizing, it could make the models much easier to build.
BTW, scratch building is legal, though some GW stores might not let you use all of your scratch builds. (but in the case of FW I think they'll probably be more accepting).

Sorry, I was looking for the model dimensions. so 18"? thank you very much qsd.
And I work at an independent retailer as "the warhammer guy" so I'm pretty sure I could use Lego figures for IG if I wanted to. Abuse of power? Of course. (I wouldn't actually do that, fyi ) In other words, I don't have to worry too much about the legitimacy of my scratch builds.
Would anyone also happen to know the length of the marauder? Is it 15-20ish inches?
I've been trying to work out the same things. From the photos on the forgeworld website I think the marauder length is slightly shorter than the wingspan. So 15 inches might be about right. I have been on the yahoo site one of the other guys mentioned and there are some good templates on there but i have'nt checked the sizes yet. If you find out the size of a thunderbolt let me know. good luck.
So I bought the Thunderbolt off Forgeworld, and it has arrived. It has a length of 10 inches with a wingspan of 11.
That is quite a bit smaller than thought! I may have to build myself one for ma orks now...
I think you won't need to be exact with the dimensions of your aircraft just try to get it similar. Here is an article on designing your own data sheets. GW Online : Warhammer 40,000 : Apocalypse : Designing Your Own Datasheets
If you are going to scratch build these things you may find it easier to make rules that aren't exactly what GW provides.
