The title pretty much says it all, really. I'm painting my eldar army, but have no idea what paints to use for the avatar. I want it to look as much like the one in the codex as possible, so i would really appreciate a painting guide.
Have you seen the Avatars from Forgeworld? On their website its painted to be of metal with a molten core, which is really just what it is.. I like the more.. darker feel of the forgeworld Avatar..
I'm currently experimenting with painting an avatar as well. At the moment I have only painted his legs, but this is what I did.
Undercoated the model white, then did a black coat on the cloth. Then I watered down some red gore and painted the 'plates' with that. I painted yellow (sunburst yellow IIRC) in the 'gaps' where the 'flesh' of the avatar shows through. I highlighted the armour plates trying to make it look like a bar of iron in the middle of a hot forge - glowing brightly and getting darker. Look up some reference photos to work from.
Then for the 'skin' I highlighted the yellow so it was almost white in the middle (especially behind the knee). Then I did several glazes - yellow on the yellow and red, chestnut and black on the plates. Only done a little part, but it looks good so far. Might post photos when I get around to it.
Dovie'andi se tovya sagain (It's time to roll the dice)- Mattrim Cauthon
I did mine in an Ulthwe scheme so very different.
But lava is lava and I just blend outwards:
White- Yellow-Iyanden-Fire Orance - Blaz orange - Blood red then wash/rehighligh.
Takes a while but looks nice
