Not exactly sure how to remove small details like insignia and such. It's too out of the way for clippers to reach without damaging the model, and it's too thick for a knife. It just seems like overkill to use a dremmel though... any ideas?
Don't be afraid to use a dremel. It may look like overkill, but if clippers and knives are no viable options, you're gonna need one. Of course, I don't recommend it if you're not that good with your hands, but otherwise a dremel is perfect for the job.

Yeah, use a dremel if you need to. Otherwise, break out the miniature files.
It depends a little on where the details are, but I've never needed anything other than a knife and a file to smooth it out.
I've never needed anything else than a file either.. But maybe in hard to reach places, like the way stone between the banshees' breasts(pun not intended).
