I am starting on a battlefield and need ideas on how toform hills. I would really appreciate any input. Also, does anyone know how to form a decent looking walkway between two buildings? Keep in mind that I'm just starting.
To form basic nice looking hills i always use 1" foam insulation board (you know the blue or pink stuff they use to insulate arrund house foundations) and shave off the top sides and it rounds it in a nice hill...
There are endless possibilities to make walkways,
Foam card (wich i have never seen but i know you can use it)
Aluminium or nylon screen
thin metal sheets
Anything you can think of you can use! thats what so great about terrain building... you can do whatever you want!
I had this long signature made up, but I didnt like it...
To make hills should be pretty straitforward, just get some styrofoam cut it in size then paint and flock.
To make some bridges try having a look in WD 261, there's a feature on Inquisitor terrain making with some goodlooking bridges which seems fairly easy, and it should be no problem scaling them down to WH-size
Finally you could get 'How to make wargamesterrain' from GW, it's actually worth the monye.
Thanx for the ideas guys. I really appreciate it.
Just a little info on this... there are two of them...Finally you could get 'How to make wargamesterrain' from GW, it's actually worth the monye.
The new on from this year and an older one from 1995...wow! almost 10 years!
The new one is really great for water and different terrain types.
But the old one is really great for tree ideas.
Just some info that's all... :w
I made a simple wood plank bridge by getting some hard cardboard and cutting it into plank pieces, then I stuck it together with a little PVA glue and painted it to look like wood, nails holding it together and everything.
It served its purpose until one day someone (who used to use this site but shan't be named) put his can of Coke on it and destroyed it.
what kind of buildings are you trying to link? If they are large industrial buidlings, then you could get a toliet paper roll, and put a piece of anything flat over it, so that its like a pipeline that has a catwalk over it.

yeah you could use that, but woulden't it look a little strange if all pipes around the table are "supersize"?
Consider this, a toilet paper roll is like almost the same dimension as a space marine is tall... come on... 3 meter diameter pipes running all over the place?
Try using plumbing pipes, you know the ones they use for hot and cold water...
Simple plastic pipes are quite cheap from hardware stores and come in a variety of sizes.
And you don't always have to use actual pipes. I used some plastic wire insulation (the stuff that surrounds electric wires) and glued it in place, then I just painted it up a little.
Oh yeah, those are just as great...actually looks more industrial...
the reason I say plumbing pipes is because when you use these it should be perfectly easy to add pipe angles and splits here and there, thereby making it even more interresting.
