I really want to have a good looking necron army, my painting skills are quite good however the necrons are pretty hard to spice up a bit, my necrons are chainmail with red gore shoulder pads and red bits on their legs and arms.
Amazingly I have never ever converted before and am now wondering if I could there would be anything I could do to make them just that little bit better.
At the moment my bases are scorched brown with a bleached bone drybrush over the top I was thinking of putting on crystals but decided not too.
Do YOU have any good ideas
do you think you could show us some pics of what you already have done? then we could give advice on what you can do from there

Don't quite have the time to paint?
Check out the site - Great prices, Great painting!
well, are you considering a full repaint of them all or just adding "a little something" ?
some extra basework would be the most rewarding without mucking with the models as such.
just order a bunch of random bits, file em down to fit flush with the ground and slap em on.
hey, heres an idea.. put some crushed roses under the foot of one of them..
*obvious terminator 2 reference*
if your after a fresh paintjob, then im big on unusually colored metallics, like a green or maybe even chameleon (if you can get some).
just mix ink and white metallics to color the metal, gotta stir it now and then though.
An ancient, rusted/bronzey look might be cool. Apparently adding salt to an ink wash will give a crusted/crystalized kind of look to a metal, though I've never done it myself.
I think the bases would be good but Im really not sure how to do an advanced base job really I just normally whack on some sand, so is there anything good I could do?
Also is there anything good I could use for conversions that is relitavely cheap (under $40 for all my models)
I found Hobby Lobby is a great cheap place for picking up little things like flocking and gravel as opposed to the game store. Also if you have a local model train club a lot of the older guys (my fathers age 60+) they are a wealth of knowledge on making things look realistic.
about 7500 pts of Dark Angels, probably a sub chapter with the way I have them painted up with copper edging and all.
If you're looking for something interesting to add without changing too much, it may be worth designating certain larger areas such as the edges of shoulder pads to a different colour and adding some symbols similar to the ones on the transfer sheets. I did this with some destroyers a few years ago, and it looked rather good in my opinion, and helped break up the flat open space. I had silver and red necrons similar to your scheme I'd guess, and painted about a cm strip on the inside of the flat areas on the destroyer's flat hoverpad area in a bright yellow colour, before painting on the glyphs in black. This may also be a way of keeping track which warriors are in each squad =). Just an idea, and as I no longer have such a paintscheme on my models you won't have to worry about cloned ideas .
Thats a great idea seasonreaper I have 20 necron warriors so I could split them up into 2 squads, but Im not sure how to split them up, cause they are meant to be robots like all the same and identical but I'lle try to think of something
Sounds kind of similar to my necron colors. You could always go get some different colored gauss tubes to give them an even more unique look.
There are a few places you can buy them, search through the necron boards and you can find a few links. I personaly got mine in a store that sells bar supplies. Clear red swizzle sticks worked perfectly.
Is what they end up looking like
Yes, I did deep-strike your sister...
