I've had this idea for a rather long time, making a Space Marine Baneblade type thing, to use as a count as Baneblade in Apocalypse, bacause I am tired of having an average of six Blades in an average battle, and me not having an of them. Well, this will all change! Maybe.
My idea was to have a very big version of a whirlwind, using Baneblade sponsons, and a scratchbuild turret.
So, after a trip down to the local store (about 1/2 an hour away by train), I found this:
And Airfix US Army M1A2 Abrams tank, which will act as the base for my tank. And here are the parts that I am going to use:
Here you can see the tank sprues, some plasticard and the Baneblade sponson sprues (available from the Gamesworkshop webste). What you can't see because it is spray painted black, is the turret sprue from a Razorback, which has now been demoted to a normal rhino. I will also be using pieces from a Space Marine vehicle acessories sprue, or the chaos one if I run out of loyalist parts.
Now then. The floor of the tank was far too thin for the size I wanted it to be, so this is where the plasticard came into play:
Here you can also see a marine for scale, and, as you may be able to see, it may end up a bit smaller than a real Baneblade. And a bit flatter. In fact it is about the height of a Rhino at the moment. Oh well. I doubt that anyone would complain that much. Hopefully.
Anyway, updates in the future will come pretty much when I find time to do a bit more with my tank.
Oh, nearly forgot, can anyone think of a name for this? I can't.
Good start. I always thought of the big tanks as being exclusive IG toys, so this will be fun to watch.
BTW, what scale is that tank?
The tank says it is 1:35 scale. And yes, large tanks are rather exclusive to the Imperial Guard, but the Marines could do with some more heavy armour.
Some of the things people come up with to build is amazing, this one looks like it aught to be good
about 7500 pts of Dark Angels, probably a sub chapter with the way I have them painted up with copper edging and all.
