So I have 1,000 points of necrons painted, based, and usable in battle (they've already bloodied up dark angels, tau, and nids with varying success in many a game), and I'm well on my way to 1,500. I'm adding immortals and a monolith.
My problem is I'm not sure where to go with the colors. Right now, the "basic" troops, destroyers and scarabs are painted the generic boltgun metal with black, brown and green washes to give them that "aged" look. I don't care if the 'lith matches that perfectly, since I've seen many armies (including the one in the codex) with a different colored monolith, so that's no big deal to me.
Right now, the 'lith is based in black, but I know I don't want to go with the "traditional" green-highlight-and-done kind of thing. A guy at my local store has a finished 'lith (which I proxy in 1,500 point games), and it looks great. He basically drybrushed a black undercoat with tin bits and brazen brass. Gives the whole thing a nice coppery look.
The thing is, he also painted over the green plastic bits so they would fit the scheme. Since I don't want to paint mine, I'm not sure they'd look right. Has anyone seen a monolith done like this? How did it look?
I'm also considering a combination of colors, like, say, putting that brassy, copper-y color on the corner pieces, while doing the sides, front and back in a highlighted black, but I'm not sure about that either. I know the color wheel is good for finding contrary, complementary colors, but I'm a bit confused since I don't know how to locate the brassy, copper color on the wheel. Further, I'm not sure how to find a complementary color that will go with the green bits, if I do it like that.
Can anyone help?
P.S. I'm also trying to find a suitable variation on the troops scheme for my immortals. Painting them gold/copper seems a little TOO different. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm starting up Necrons again and I have one of two choices to pick from.
1. A tin blitz metal with Black armor.
2. Black metal with Space Wolves Grey armor.
I like the brass feel. With the black armor it will give them a nice steampunk look. The monolith will be done the same way but in sections.
One of the nicest lithes I have ever seen was the one in my local store. THey basically painted it a dark and drab red, with dark metal accents. THe scheme actually looks very nice with the contrasting green rods and jewel.
you coud go for a tan or stone colour to make it look like a pyramid
Basically, I'm trying to think of a good contrasting color to dark brownish metal. Yellow is an obvious choice, but that would be a bit too "bright" for what I want, I think. I thought maybe purple would do. Can anyone think of a better color? I'm not sold on that one.
