How do some of you do hair? Blond hair, black hair, brown hair, etc. What are your tricks to achieve your looks. I've tried inks but they are only so good. Please let me know, thanks. I am doing the hair of wild riders btw, just to let you know.
For blonde hair, I NEVER use yello - always start with snakebite leather, and highlight up adding a little elf-flesh up to elf flesh + bleached bone, then highlight up to elf-flesh + white - gives a more "luminous" blonde, like you see on Legolas' hair in LOTR.
Brown hair - again, I normally use snakebite as a base, shade a little with scorched earth wash, and lightly highlight with bleached bone + snakebite. Depends on how dark I want it - if I want really dark brown, I'll start with scorched earth + black.
For black hair, I paint straight black, and lightly highlight with black + shadow grey or black + bleached bone or black + UM blue.
Grey hair I find looks bizarre, but is nice for Elven hair - I normally start using shadow + bleached bone for a slightly off-blue grey, and highlight up with SW grey + bleached bone, and then bleached-bone + white
The tip is to not fry-brush, as that leaves the hair looking frazzled, I use the edge of the brush with ver little paint to follow the flow lines of the hair with varying degrees of pressue.
for a blond hair, ive been doing a basecoat of scorched brown -> khemri brown => desert yellow (this paint is very watery but dont try to get a solid coat) => golden yellow (same as desert yellow) => light wash of flesh wash.
i think that this acheives a pretty good loooking dirty blonde color...anyways, try it out tell me what you think
