So, I decided I didn't want to buy any more metal stormtroopers, and wanted to use some cool Pig Iron heads I saw, as well as practice my green-stuff skills, which are quite lacking.
The Pig Iron heads I found (HEAVY INFANTRY CLOSED HELMET SPRUES) screamed conversion to me (and no, its not just because of the label "CONVERSION" in the corner of the picture!), as well as the fact that I was listening to my Halo 3 soundtrack (Its good music!), and I couldn't resist: I had to make a squad of ODSTs. So I popped onto the war store, picked up some tau backpacks that are going to get converted, got some brown stuff, a couple plasma guns, melta guns and those heads. They should be here by this next week, depending on how slow the mail is moving....
While the excess parts don't really save me any money, just the uniqueness of these troops makes it worthwhile.
In the meantime, though, I had to do a prototype, and while he's not that well pictured and headless, I think he's doing alright. To do the hellgun cables, I just chopped up a busted set of headphone wires. The picture is rather rough, I hope to borrow a camera tomorrow to take a better picture.
I don't like the shoulder notches, nor the knee ones, so I'll be filling those in..and I'll be using brown stuff once its here to do the pads because it's just so much shaper a material to work with. Wonder if I should get some tau shoulderpads to modify this with?
Now, the thing he's stepping on is the forward hatch to an ODST drop-pod (or Human Entry Vehicle, as they call it in the Bungie-verse)...well, a part of one. I did it up like they talked about on the GW site for basing a dread coming out of a drop pod. I used cardstock from a triscuit box to make it.
So, any initial impressions? Aside from I really, really need a new camera?

The same idea struck me the first time I saw the Pig Iron heads, although I was going to do it with Space Marine scouts since I'm not such a good sculptor. Good job actually doing it.
Replaced old second picture with better one, might need to refresh to see it if you saw the old second picture.
Looks pretty good...whats going to be attached to those wires?
cant wait to see the finished minis.
"First one in,last one out".
Oh, the wires are going to feed into a backpack just like a standard hellgun.
I saw the box with the heads.
Its sitting in the mailroom right now....
I saw it as I walked by, and the door was open..but I couldn't pick them up because they were closed.
I'm about to chew the door down.
Would it be fluffable to have as a lasgun team, one poor gaurdsmen carries the gun and another behind him carries the battery pack?
nice work zeewulf, you remind me of me when I joined, I was posting like mad lol! I have more posts than most long time members but you've been doing better stuff with it than I did.
