Welcome to Librarium Online!
I’m currently converting a Samurai themed fantasy army, I’m using a High Elves list but using Bretonnian Men At Arms and peasant models as a base for my conversions.
So far most of my mock models are looking good except...
HOW DO I MODEL THE STRAW HATS?
They are one of the most iconic pieces of Japanese Warriors and I would like to have a unit wearing them perhaps my Swordmasters. I also want to have one of my 40k models wearing one (of course not made of straw but a light metal or plastic)
So anyone got any ideas on how to convert them or is there a certain model bit I could use for them, help me out here guys?

Come on guys I really need help here! People I've asked have suggested card and green stuff but I neither of them would work well, isn't there a model or DIY component I could use!?!
I've never held one of these things IRL which makes replicating it harder, but I'm thinking mby the rice paper sold in some craft/art stores could give you the texture you're looking for. The reedy/tiered look of the real hats is going to be hard to relpicate, but the texture of the paper and mby the addition of some character work or oriental lettering on them could get the effect you're looking for.
Two's to kill. Ahh, sweet sweet music.
I believe I can use the Tau Sheild Generator for my 40k Inquisitor's shade hat, problem is how do I attact it to the space marine head, filing won't work I need to hollow out the center of the sheild generator somehow?
Maybe use some crafting paper or something? Like cut it in the proper size and shape, and form it into the cone shape like the straw hats. Maybe even paint them or color them with marker or something to give the look you want.
Just an idea, good luck with the modeling!

People keep saying that but I ask you all how easy do you think it will be to roll a piece of paper (or something similar) 1cm wide into a cone shape?
make a conical impression that suits the models you want, make sure it suits them size wise and then make it out of milliput, or something else hard.
Get the right thickness of plasticard and heat it with a hairdryer and press the hat impression into it. Then all you need to do is cut it out and file the edge.

I would carve it from greenstuff, make a milliput mould of it, and then cast your own using the milliput blank.
