im really really keen for a project that really pushes my modelling skills, and since im hinking about doing a daemons army, i think ill have a crack at some fiends of slaanesh. now the current models made by GW are an absolute joke. i have no hesitation in saying theyre the worst models in the range right now, yet their stats are awesome so i want some.
now to the plan, basically im thinking of slaaneshing (yep, its a word) up some tyranid warriors into a half worm, half daemonette, half evil monstr thing. ill ms paint some ideas up but i was wondering if you guys had any ideas what could be done to the warriors or any other alternative to using the ****** current models
And yes, the fiend models are awful, though tobe honest I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive GW for taking away the lithe, dynamic and beautiful ladies and replacing them with static-posed, crab-clawed female members of House Goliath...
That'll be raveners. Luckily the models have the bottom wyrm-like part as a separate piece to the main body, so it shouldn't be too hard to clean one up to look non-niddy and add something a little more slaaneshi on top. The only problem with this however is that the metal daemonettes are a little too small and thin, and the plastic ones just plain suck. Raveners are a pretty good size to use for fiends though so they may indeed be the right thing for you to use as a basis.
Are you going to have normal daemonettes in this list, Stevethepirate? And are you going to be using the new plastics or the older (and much better, in my opinion) metals?
Are you against using mini's from other producers? I know a guy who used rackham miniatures to be feinds and they look pure awesome in miniature form. Ill find out what they are if your interested.
Edit: Nevermind, found them easily enough! He painted them to have purple/pink flesh and made the armour and stuff look like bondage gear, very slaaneshi!
Ooh I remember these! They're Wolfen (?) from Confrontation - I remember looking at them online and thinking there was a slight Slaaneshi feel to some of them. They're nice minis, and yeah they'd make good fiends. One small problem, Rackham pulled its entire range and started to release pre-painted plastics of its minis instead of the metals...
Macewind, just out of interest, do you know a store/site that still has some of the metals for sale?
thanks for the replies guys.
well, i thought about using raveners over warriors, due to the bottom half of them already being worm like, but i was thinking warriors cause of their plasticy nature and hence easier to convert. ive done a very little amount of sculpting, but im keen to give it a go. yes i will be having some daemonettes in my army and theyll be the newer ones, not the awesome old ones.
i am not opposed to using non-gw models, but the one posted seems to human to be the nightmares of slaanesh. that said an appropriate paint job would look awesome.
also, is there a tutorial on modelling fur?
I just used the boob-worm from the lord of slaanesh. The only problem is that if you want more than one, they will all look the same.
